The Troubadour

Inspired in large part by the Interstellar soundtrack, I made good on a promise to flip one of my favourite cuts from it. It soon became this, a remix of 2pac's Thugs Mansion (the NY acoustic version w/ Nas).

This is what happens when you give me access to a library of sounds and samples. May I present to you a remix of Outkast's classic track B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad), courtesy of yours truly.

This is what happens when you get me to flip [presumably] a song used in an anime (though admittedly, I don't know what it is for sure), get my boy @sam-89 to lay down some fire bass lines, and lace it with Logic's Buried Alive.

Channelling @knxwledge on this one, as he's a big inspiration and influence on me as a beatmaker/producer. When I went to the Philadelphia Art Museum, I saw this statue commissioned by the parents of a child they lost due to tragic circumstances. It moved me... and so I made this. Keeping it all the way chill but all the way moving.

I have always loved the film 'Only Yesterday' and the soundtrack's composer - Katsu Yoshi - made one of my all-time favourite pieces of music in the main theme for the film.

This is not just me flipping it and tapping the almighty @sam-89 to bless the track with some bass and guitar licks. No, no, no... this is me paying homage.

From me to one of my greatest inspirations... and to you listening to this as well. An idea I conceptualised over eight years ago has finally been realised as I had it in my head.

Sade is everything and Cherish The Day is my absolute favourite Sade track. Until now, I've never attempted a Sade flip. One had to take their sweet time with this one and I'm damn proud to present my efforts to you all in glorious aural form.

Love Can Be Hard Sometimes (prod. by KXLD)

A collaborative effort between myself, Chris Carpenter, Kristian 'Kc' Currington, and others.

This song started out life in my older brother's (Roger Guthrie Jr.) kitchen.  I penned the lyrics and arranged the vocals to a NAMELESS beat called 'Be Sure' (off of his BE[ats]ORIGINAL Vol. 2 beattape).  Little did I know that I would eventually be the frontman of my band Set Your Sights.  One of the band's guitarists/mutual friend (Amar Sagoo) started freestyling the riff and my ears perked up immediately.  Chris [being the legend that he is] picked it up almost immediately and the SYS boys and I eventually created our first acoustic ballad called 'Conviction.'  I loved it but I felt that was only the first stage of tune's evolution.  I suggested we added more power to the track, particularly at the end.  The lads obliged and eventually Conviction underwent metamorphosis yet again.

After Chris proposed to his now newly-wed wife Phoebe, he called me & KC, asking if we could create a special version of 'Conviction' for the bride and groom dance at his wedding.  Naturally, I obliged and KC happily offered his services to make this idea a reality.  Adding elements like a cello; acoustic & electric guitars; smooth bass; and additional lyrics, the track I concocted in Junior's kitchen shifted into something that I never thought possible.

If I do say so myself, this version of Conviction is without doubt the greatest musical achievement I've been apart of thus far.  Many, many thanks to every beyond-talented individual that's been apart of the creation of this beautiful song.
