For our 40th release we are very happy to present our next 12", featuring staple Midwest artist, Jason Patrick. Jason originally hails from Detroit but has called Chicago home for many years. His 'Back Channel Communications' EP exemplifies his highly refined production technique developed from years of experience as a DJ, producer, and label owner. Amalgamation opens the record heavy, brooding, and sinister; continuing with Conspire, an rhythmic exercise in drive punctuated by sparse syncopated claps. Flip the record, JX-216 delivers hefty angular grit in his remix; and closing out the EP, Jason takes us into space with Enveloped, featuring expansive atmospheric themes.

Reeko, also known as Architectural, started DJing in the late 90s and producing in the early 2000s, and he has released countless timeless records since. He founded the labels Mental Disorder and Evidence and was part of the PoleGroup collective for a decade. Collaborations with Surgeon, Oscar Mulero and Exium, as well as releases on many legendary labels, are part of his discography. Fresh from Stochastic Drift, Barker’s buzzing second album named Bleep Record of the Month alongside an exclusive 12”, Barker sends a mix that really digs deep into the unique sonic methodology he has constructed across his solo career width a suitable breadth for what is also a milestone in the series, Bleep Mix #300.

From Debiasing to Utility to Stochastic Drift, Barker has been reimagining club music without its definitive thump, instead driven by melody and tactile synthesis, and this selection of tracks expands Barker’s soundworld with a host of artists walking a similar path. “For this mix, I picked out some of my favourite uptempo ambient tracks, recorded at home with two decks and a mixer. It’s music I've used in a lot of different contexts, as a DJ and listener, and I hope you enjoy it.”

Though the occasional dancefloor thump makes itself known, such as on Adriana Lopez’ ‘What Lies Behind’, it’s mostly in quaking subs rather than actual four to the floor, providing some ground for this mix’s airy freeform variety to fly over. We have the wooden plunks and seaspray of Afefe Iku’s Kenyan island sound, the wonky gamelan of Tyler Friedman’s maze of bells and chimes, the dense atmosphere of shaker-produced rain and electrical chirps forged deep in the ruins of The Future Sound Of London.

The midsection of this mix contains some magic in particular: the maestro of drumless trance Lorenzo Senni creates motion from pure jagged synth energy on ‘The Power of Failing’, dissolving into the aether of an unreleased Barker track, which further discharges into the kaleidoscopic stutters of Caribou’s ‘Never Come Back’ with jubilant piano chords and vocal clips wrought into a glitchy, swirling maelstrom of Koreless' prickly warmth. Digital Justice’s ‘Theme From It’s All Gone Pearshaped’ follows, a timeless staple for anyone wishing to dabble in melodic motion and synthsmithery, or any DJ set seeking to add some lift without losing momentum, of which this mix is in no short supply.

Bleep Mix #300 - Barker

Formerly known as Milkplant, JX-216 is a San Francisco based Techno DJ/Producer. Schooled in the Midwest and developed on the West Coast, his work encompasses well over 30 years of combined DJ/production experience, and nearly 20 years of record label management. 

In 2008 he began the label From 0-1 with fellow artist Sone, and since then has released dozens of well respected artists on vinyl, CD, and digital formats. His live pa and DJ sets have been seen in various cities across the US, and he’s released original music and remixes on Sleaze Records, BEK Audio, Blank Code, Children of Tomorrow, Devotion, Suara, Impact Mechanics, TMM, SUB_tl, Ascetic Ltd., Vexed Sphere, From 0-1, etc.
 His productions have drawn the attention of many notable artists; showing up in mixes and charts by Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Cari Lekebusch, Norman Nodge, Richie Hawtin, Randomer, Joachim Spieth, Tommy Four Seven, Krenzlin, Submerge, Tadeo, Mattias Fridell, Joton, Electric Indigo, Samuli Kemppi, Arnaud Le Texier, Patrick Skoog, Abstract Division, and many others. Notable remixers of his original tracks include Slam, Flug, Hans Bouffmyre, Gotshell, and HD Substance.

Vancouver-based Trevor Jacobson and Tanya Goehring are The Automatic Message. Since forming The Automatic Message in 2006, Trevor and Tanya have been producing dark, off-kilter techno and supporting it with their own visual interpretations, which, in line with their music, creates a tremendous sense of unease and tension.

The Automatic Message works closely with From 0-1, a Seattle/Bay Area-based label, releasing various EPs and remixes, including collaborations with co-label head Milkplant and most recently with Brendon Moeller (AKA The Echologist) and have been charted by the likes of  Speedy J, Joey Beltram, Dave Clarke and Ben Klock. One of their recent releases saw them representing Vancouver on Berlin's Reclaim Your City (RYC) label. Their song “Perihelion” received a lot of attention because of its cross-genre appeal. It was featured on a mix by electronic music icon & R&S label-founder Renaat Vandepapeliere for Electronic Beats. 

The Automatic Message’s intriguing videography and dark style of editing has caught the eye of some of the biggest names in the techno world. CLR label boss Chris Liebing brought them onboard to create, produce and direct videos for Tommy Four Seven, Black Asteroid and Drumcell. The Automatic Message's music videos for CLR and for their own music have been screened internationally at various music video festivals and was nominated for a Berlin Music Video Award in 2014. Additionally, The Automatic Message run their own annual music video festival in Vancouver –  RENDER: The Vancouver International Music Video Festival. 

Blending these two art forms, The Automatic Message melds their auditory and visual works to create unique live performances. They juxtapose the different characters that appear in their videos to tell new narratives. Since The Automatic Message debuted live at the 2008 New Forms Festival in Vancouver, BC, they have performed across North America and Germany. They made their European debut at Berghain's Klubnacht in July 2013. They were back again in July 2015. Both trips were made possible by the Canada Council for the Arts' music travel grant program.
