An inside joke for all of you from south east Michigan who remember WLBS and DJ Mike Halloran. In the spring of '83,using a yet to be released track from the Nomad Souls record(God Loves The Rock Stars),Lon put together this piss take on all the Halloran sheep, er -fans that had to endure everyday in the record store he worked.
As I remember it, WLBS was the first 'new music/new wave/dance' station the Detroit. This aired on the first edition of its 'Garage Tapes' show that featured 'local acts'.
DJ Hank Williams(seriously!) reading Lon's letter is hysterical and his delivery is priceless("They grow'em strange in Port Huron."))


Mike Halloran - Cool Guy,Hep Cat

If you've only heard the "The Wolf Hour" from the U.K. vinyl release of NOMAD SOULS (Side Effekts) you haven't heard the "real" version, which we're upping here. Graeme Revell thought the overdriven LOUD screaming part was just TOO MUCH, so he had the mastering plant equalize the track. Every other version of the album has included the track in it's original form - S/M Operations vinyl & cassette, Necropolis CD and iTunes.

FUCKED - by Screw Machine

Hunting Lodge "Harrington Ballroom" cassette was recorded with a portable tape deck situated in the audience. After the show the recorder was left on for a couple of minutes, capturing audience chatter and room sounds. On the original S/M Operations issue this remained at the end of the tape, but was later taken off for the German (Datenverarbeitung) release.

Big Uncle Ugliness

30 years ago - while still in my punk band - I started experimenting with a cheap tape machine. Mainly influenced by groups like Dome,MB,Whitehouse, Nurse With Wound and encouraged by my friendship with B.Lustmord, I made these recordings. Taking the name 'Screw Machine' from the Acme Gridley screw machines I worked on, I put together home made cassette tapes of NOISE. These are 'organic' recordings. No synthesizers were used. Consisting mainly of guitar and bass feedback with little,or no effects pedals. Any other details are sketchy at best.While some of these tapes were for sale at Port Huron's Full Moon Records,I met Lon C Diehl.Shorty after,we formed 'S/M Operations' and 'Hunting Lodge'.
