Who We Are opens the EP. It didn't occur to me until yesterday what this song was  really about. That happens sometimes. Sometimes you write and you know exactly what you are wanting to say, what the point is, what you are getting at. Other times, I have no clue, it's like the song already exists and just needs a medium to show up. This song is somewhere in between. I wrote this song with my friend Tim Myers for the movie: The Fault In Our Stars. I had read the script, and the ending was what really got me. (Spoiler alert...stop reading if you don't want to know...) I have never been good at dealing with death. It's one of those things where you don't know what to say, or how to make it better. All you want to do is take the pain away, take the death away. Get 5 minutes back. It's not an easy situation. I feel like I know way to many people who have had parents or loved ones pass away, I can't even imagine what that is like. I think for me, this song was about putting myself in the shoes of the 2 characters and really feeling what that would feel like: Love, hope, sadness, reflection, fear, beauty. So many mixed emotions. And maybe even more symbolic: mourning your past, an old relationship, a time in your life... and setting foot into the unknown. This song never made it into the movie, but I am happy that it was able to be included on this EP. I would love to hear what it means to you.
