A collection of unreleased TFR music from the vaults

Long known for their killer releases on labels like Skam and Blueprint Records, this mix they've dubbed Ratio Sound Trials sees James Ruskin and Mark Broom collecting all sorts of fragments, sketches, and loops from the last few years that never bloomed into a coherent hour of head-spinning productions. Side A sees the first 30 minutes filled with intoxicating head-nod sonics, edging closer towards the skuffed hip hop beat tapes of the late 90s, flipping samples and wildstyle vocal cuts over programmed drum loops. On the flip the anti is upped with an increase in torque and tension over the following half hour, exploring the monolithic dystopian sound design they have mastered over the years, flitting between techno and electro influences with constantly shifting, tense rhythms. The Fear Ratio claim the material on these transmissions won’t be heard again, so listen in and grab one of the limited run cassettes while they’re still around.

Juan Mendez, a guy who’s much better known as Silent Servant, is the brains behind some of the most creatively presented music today. His first major rise to prominence was as part of Sandwell District and as well as lending sonics to the mix, his main thing was providing the art direction and that particular aesthetic that really helped Sandwell District reach the level of iconic status that it did. It's been well documented that the project was drawn to a close last year with the fabric 69 mix turning into its swansong, so as the massive fans we are, we were always going to be in the wings with baited breath waiting for news on what any of collective's next ventures would be. 

Well, back in 2013, Jealous God was born; a project creatively backed not only by Mendez but also by James Ruskin and Regis, who of course was another contingent of Sandwell District. And much like Sandwell, over its six releases to date, Jealous God has not only instilled a thought provoking aesthetic from out of the musical contents of the records but the art has also become deeply rooted as the mode of the label’s presentation, creating another beacon for brutal yet brooding techno. 

It's quite right then that we have invited the label to host a night here in Room Two on Saturday 20th September and to represent exactly what Jealous God stands for sonically, Silent Servant has stepped up to deliver an exclusively recorded mix featuring a wealth of Jealous God output...

For the 12th installment of Archives, we're delighted bring you Ario's absolutely transcendent set from the second night of Moment this year.
As the head of Astral Industries, Ario is perhaps best known for his impeccable curation of category-defying music that straddles cosmic ambient, deep techno, sounds from future civilizations, and songs pulled straight from the void. For this year's Moment, we asked Ario draw from the more dancey and deep regions of his musical interests - and the set he delivered took the audience on an unforgettable trip!
Starting from the late afternoon, Ario's mix gets right down to business, building up layer upon layer of minimal, hypnotic cuts that propelled us into the night. As the sun set and the lazer displays began to materialize in the forest, Ario started to unfold the upper-dimensional structure he had been patiently sculpting behind the decks: a monument of deep psychedelic grooves and acid-drenched bangers towering above the dancefloor like a message from beyond. Following the label’s last release from Dumitrescu, the UK-based label Myriad returns with a stunning vinyl release, with Czevski (the alias of a well-known UK producer) and Tulbure both contributing two tracks each courtesy of the stunning Secunda Dominica EP.
Label founder Louie says that working with Tulbure and Czevski feels especially meaningful, as their music had a strong influence on his early sound:
“Long before the label started, both of them had a big impact on how I connected with music, so it’s a real pleasure to be collaborating with them now.

Looking ahead, Myriad has more music on the horizon, including a release from another UK-based artist and close friend of the label. For now, the rest remains under wraps; a reflection of the label’s approach to letting things evolve naturally.
