My Favorite Robot Records came to life three years ago and in the intervening time has become one of the most respected electronic record labels around. Now the imprint reaches the minor landmark of its 50th release and looks to the talent of fellow Canadian Sid LeRock to deliver a scorching single to fit the bill.

Sheldon Thompson AKA Sid LeRock is a resident of Cologne, Germany, but originally hails from Ontario, Canada where he chose to leave the family trade as a Lumberjack behind to pursue his musical passions, first in Toronto, before moving to Europe. LeRock has been a regular on Ladomat 2000 &amp; Shitkatapult, for whom he has released a string of singles as well as three artist albums, he also records under the Pan/Tone moniker for the likes of Kompakt, Mule Electronic and his own Cereal/Killers imprint.

This latest release features two tracks, ‘Temptress’ and ‘Tamer’ with outstanding remixes of each. The single kicks off with ‘Temptress’, a wonderfully hypnotic and techy cut with a pulsating backing track and LeRock’s intense and emotive vocals. The remixes on this come courtesy of London’s Alex Jones, who offers up a spacious techno reworking and fellow Canadian hot shot, Jordan Dare who takes things down a deep and dark route with a version that stays true to the original whilst injecting its own character into the mix.

‘Tamer’ is a counterpart to the brooding atmosphere of ‘Temptress’, providing a deeply melodic and mesmerising record that once again showcases LeRock’s haunting vocals. Alongside the original, LeRock gets to work under his Gringo Grinder alter ego to deliver a mix that perfectly fuses elements of electro with a driving techno rhythm track, quality stuff.

With ‘Temptress &amp; the Tamer’ Sid LeRock has delivered another outstanding release on a label that is quite simply on fire at the moment and with a full length album signed from LeRock due for later this year there is plenty to look forward to.

Berlin-based artists Trashlagoon and Parra for Cuva combine their otherworldly sonic forces on their collaborative Planet Ujou EP.   After crossing paths at a Paris gig, the duo quickly became friends due to a shared passion for music-making. The two dropped notable releases with the Gallery Gerhardsen Gerner before venturing to a remote island in the Northern Sea to begin crafting their EP.  Upon returning to Berlin, they quickly realized that the project would take them both on a sonic journey that would drastically expand their range and boundaries. The pair, Nicolas and Niklas, decided to finalize the EP in a remote hut in Northern Berlin packed with instruments free of inhibitions and everyday distractions. 
 
The final product,  Planet Ujou, is an abstract juxtaposition of Indie music with an emphasis on a four to the floor rhythm. Inspired by traditional African folk music, its rhythmic structure permeates throughout their stellar instrumentation fused with Electronic and Jazz motifs.  Produced with the intent to stand the test of time, the duo hopes to offer their listeners around the world a sonic platform that connects them on a boundless level.

Germany’s Jacob Groening (@jacobgroening) is one of those hard to pin down artists working within the space of organic dance music. As a live performer and hybrid DJ, Jacob somehow manages to infuse everything from gypsy to jazz, blues to soul, with distinctly electronic elements. Never one to settle for anything less than unique, his gentle touch and international influences create music that is both sweet and powerful. This sound has already been felt across the likes of Bar 25, Steyoyoke, Delicieuse Musique, and his own Kamai Music imprint, and now Jacob provides the 4th instalment on Amsterdam’s The Gardens of Babylon eponymous label.

Jacob’s Leslie Ep is a three-track excursion, inspired by travels yet constructed in quarantine. It is a testament to the connective power of music through uncertain times, where some dancefloors may be empty, but hearts and minds remain full. Until we meet again, let Jacob’s playful and pulsating Ep satisfy those communal urges with a journey through sound and culture. Starting this journey, its title track gently swells throughout with subtle chants and hypnotic percussion. Kabir then kicks things up a notch, bouncing between its own pulsating rhythm and powerful chord progressions. Finally, Iguazu draws direct inspiration from Jacob’s travels through India during times before the world changed. With field audio and local musicians interjected throughout its explorative atmosphere, Iguazu is the perfect representation of Jacob’s distinct style: gentle, shifting, and cultural.

If you know The Gardens of Babylon, you know Jacob Groening. His sets from The Dunes of Babylon and ADE’s The Seekers of Light have placed him firmly within family status. Now, with Leslie Ep Jacob Groening joins Geju with his own solo release on the label.

At the beginning of last year I went to listen and see Isolée during his live act in Lausanne. He started that night with a really amazing tune - something so full of love and harmony, something that is definitely rare at the moment.

One week later that song was still in my mind and so I asked Rajko what it was, to which he answered: "I did a soundtrack for a skateboard movie and the track I started my live set with is a draft of it." I asked him to make me an edit to be played in my set. I’ve been playing "Dennis" for the past year in all my sets around the world and always receive a fantastic reaction from the smiling crowd.

One year later this special song called "Dennis" is ready to be played by you and the world and I'm really proud and excited to start "Xtra Tamed" with such a masterpiece! I asked one of my best friends and one of the most talented producers around, Baïkal (from Maeve and Innervisions), to work on the remix and trust me when I say that this rework has a similarly funny but long story as the original cut! Isolée vs Baikal sounds like a match made in heaven, don't ya think?
