Now more than ever, building bridges, connecting with the people around us and promoting unity is a necessity to live in prosperity towards the future… Sometimes one plus one is more than two… On Wednesday night and Thursday morning we witnessed an example of this magic when we united forces with Robot Heart, creating an epic experience between both stages and a massive mixed audience. The sun had risen and it was time for the last set on the Warrior's side, it was time for MENTAL. Rebolledo and Dramian created an energetic hypnotic journey through a wide range of emotions. A morning to remember... It was one for the books...

Anton Tumas is a man that wears many hats. As a DJ, promoter, and label owner, he has left an inevitable mark on the underground scene, spanning over a decade.

Cutting his teeth at LA’s clubs, desert parties like Moontribe and Burning Man, where he’s played everything from Robot Heart to DISTRIKT and Mayan Warrior, festivals such as Lightning In A Bottle, Desert Hearts, Further Future and Woogie Weekend, he quickly found himself playing with the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, DJ Tennis, and Danny Howells. Refusing to be limited by run of the mill music, his ever-evolving taste ranges from the farthest corners of house and techno to abstract electronica and everything in between.

Gaining the ability to control a dance floor led to his being inspired to understand the makings of a good party. Using his laser-like focus, he was soon a self-taught promoter, throwing parties in city parks and outdoor venues. Most notably, he essentially discovered the Belmont Pier in Long Beach as a venue, and set up one of the region’s most respected residencies, Subtract On The Pier. 

Now well into its fourth year, it continues to attract local icons, such as Doc Martin and Marques Wyatt, and major international headliners including Hernan Cattaneo, Sebastian Mullaert, and Max Cooper. This residency combined with his promoter prowess led him to co-produce and curate the Love Long Beach Festival, which is in its fifth year and attracts more than 15,000 people.

Having initially founded the Subtract brand as a record label, he showcased emerging talent as new indie labels do. Although that commitment to new artists remains unchanged, his credibility now attracts remixes from superstars like Stimming, John Digweed and Damian Lazarus. The label releases just once or twice a year, with a focus on quality over quantity.

Now, with years of experience under his belt, he is ready for the next chapter. “We’re in an ever-evolving landscape, and are inventing it as we speak. But take this as a promise: We are about to raise the bar.”

A couple of months ago, when we heard that we were going to get to mix our first Essential Mix, we had absolutely no idea what we were going to do. It's a very big deal for us to do this mix. We decided to use a lot of old records and tracks that we really liked when we first started playing together in our hometown in Poland. That's why, for example, we asked Jacek Sienkiewicz to send us 'Dream Machine' and also why we included Michael Mayer 'Speaker'.
There is a lot of old vinyl that we included especially for our Essential Mix. Harry Kane, T-RWKR, Arto Mwambe, Needs, Terry Brooks and one of our all time favourite records from Alex Cortex that we even edited specially. We really have to thank Axel Boman for introducing us to Bassroots 'Good Life' and Marcin Czubala because we discovered Sofrito Specials through him.
There is something from our label Pets Recordings, that our friend Nikola Baytala from San Francisco will put out at the end of May. It will be his first EP for many years and this track is probably one of the most trippy things we've ever released. That's why we love it so much! There are a lot of tracks in the mix that have their own story but, for now, we're gonna let the music speak for itself'. Catz 'n Dogz, April 2013.
