No we are clearly racist but his second point is spot on - you said who on earth hates the Lebanese? Or something to that effect, and it's obvious to Australians bc there is a considerable population of Lebanese people here (just like the Pakistanis in the UK - equally as specific as the Lebanese), and people often are threatened by whatever major community is in their midst (also, Sydney has a much bigger racial problem with the Lebanese than Melb, even though both have large Lebanese communities - so there are other factors at play). The comfortable comment didn't bother me but the specific one did. Racism is specific everywhere. But also general everywhere, bc in those parts an Egyptian person walking down the street would be taken as Lebanese and treated the same way. Anyway, we're comfortable but also nervous as fuck. Happens when you're a white colonial island power in a sea of colour, troubled by a bloody history of basically what amounts to native ethnic cleansing. The feeling of being threatened won't go away until non-white surpass whites, IMO. But even when that happens I'm sure some other "nation" will shoulder the racism. Unless we all end up being of mixed races. I mean, we already are that, "race" is a social construct!!!

BTW, "assault rifles" aren't what you think they are.  They are not military weapons.  Military weapons are already heavily restricted by existing laws.  The definition of "assault rifles" has nothing to do with "military grade".  I think the technical definition is "guns that look scary."  Seriously, that's it.
