Why, where, when?

Armed with one mic, a laptop, and only a faint idea of how to actually produce a decent-sounding mix, the Burghes set out to capture the sounds of their high school years in the summer of 2012. 

Holing up in make-shift home studios stuffed with pillows and sweaters for three months, these six friends recorded what would eventually become the Empty Spaces EP while preparing to part ways for the first time since becoming a band. 

Throughout the following year, Blake used his rare free time as a college freshman to edit, mix, and master those tracks, developing a deep appreciation for reverb and multi-band EQs along the way. 

Now, one year after the initial recording sessions, The Burghes finally feel like their songs come close to being presentable and are ready for release, bringing a bit of closure to their brief experience as a band. 

Empty Spaces offers a small slice of the Burghes' catalogue, focusing on songs written and sung by Nyasia Arradondo that feature arrangements and solos by instrumentalists Daniel, Darius, Blake, Jakub, and Gaia.

Empty Spaces

The Burghes are a short-lived yet tight-knit high school band that spent their brief year together crafting original songs, developing dozens of covers, and playing shows around Minneapolis. Each member coming from a distinct musical background, the Burghes present an eclectic style that is rooted in R&B, yet incorporates elements of jazz, Latin, soul, hard rock and classical music. Their debut EP, Empty Spaces, was released in August 2013.
