BATATA & GÜMRÜK is a collection of oriental disco, funk & soul cuts from the 60s-70s assembled by Kamal Rasool of UK psychedelic soul band Flamingods. The tracks focus on the idea of taking traditional melodies and language and tossing them on their heads by blending in Western instruments such as guitars, bass, drum kits and soothing synths to create a beautiful new composition of its own: a popular notion in the 60s and 70s. This is the Golden Era for Kamal and something him and his band mates try to achieve in their own music. The music spans all around the Arab world and its borders, including cuts from Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon and Libya.
