Written after a frustrating day in the studio with ERCO’s producer Ben, who was going to manufacture a hit from some beats and clicks that sounded familiar.  
In Jack’s head it had the feel of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band, hence the gruffer vocals that Jack tried to get when they did record it.

Going Forwards in Reverse

Written by the group while living in the record company flat in London where they found it hard to sleep in the 24-hour city and were kept awake by revving supercars in the street.  Rick had just come back from New York so that was the subject of verse one, followed by London and their home city in Kent.

How Can A City Ever Sleep?

Jack was frustrated by the result of the narrow margin of victory for the UK Leave campaign in June 2016. This is a bitter song inspired by the 19th century Legend that comes up on Jack’s Facebook feed the next day:
A legend of the 19th century tells the story of Truth and Lie, as they met once, many many centuries ago, before when immortals walked the earth and the river would flow from the sky.
Lie praised to Truth “Good day today.” Truth to be sure, looked around and at the sky and, indeed, the day was fine.
They walked for a while until they reached a large well full of water. Lie dipped his hand in the water and turning to Truth, told her: “Nice and warm water. Do you want to swim together? ” Again Truth was suspicious but she tried the water with her hand and it was indeed really warm. So both of them went to the water and swam for a long time, when suddenly Lie, came out of the well, wore the clothes of Truth and disappeared.
Truth came out angry and naked running everywhere, searching for Lie to get her clothes back. The world who saw Truth naked turned his gaze elsewhere either by shame or by anger. Poor Truth, shamelessly returned to the well and settled there forever.
Since then, Lie has been undisturbed, dressed as Truth by satisfying the tertips of the world, who in no way wants to see the naked Truth.

Real Friends is the second single from The Colour Spectrum's second album, 'Make It HUGE'. This release is in preparation for the publication of 'What's Up Wembley' which tells the story of the band from the point of headlining the Hammersmith Apollo.

Real Friends

Formed at a Music College in Kent, the story of Jackson Stanford and The Colour Spectrum, "HELLO HAMMERSMITH" was published in December 2023.  At the time of their first EP featured here, the personnel are:
