This song walks a fragile line between past and future. Land of Long Shadows isn’t simply nostalgia. It is a challenge thrown at the world we are creating. A world where lies pile up like dust on forgotten promises, where leaders smile as they lead us blindly toward conflict, and where ordinary people are left to carry the weight.

The journey through the “land of long shadows” is the path we’re all on. Shadows stretch when the sun is low, when the light is fading. This track asks what happens when the truth finally meets us at the vanishing point. When there is nowhere left for deceit to hide.

There are memories here, sure. The laughter. The warmth. The better times that prove we deserve more than manipulation and division. Yet the real heartbeat of this song is defiance. A refusal to accept a future built on secrecy and abuse of power.

Keep walking. Keep questioning. Because once the perspective converges, the truth will stand alone.

I make music for my own enjoyment. I like to control every aspect of the creative process, which is why I have never collaborated with anyone until now. However, as soon as I heard “The Piece of Wild Things” by Classical Glass, inspired by the poem of the same name by American author Wendall Berry, I imagined a voice on top of it. Philip kindly agreed to give it a try, even though the piece wasn't intended to be sung, and here's the result.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,

Je fais de la musique pour mon plaisir. J'aime bien tout maîtriser dans le processus créatif, c'est pourquoi je n'ai jamais fait de collaboration. Pourtant dès que j'ai entendu "The Piece of Wild Things" de Classical Glass inspiré du poème du même nom de l'américain Wendall Berry, j'ai imaginé une voix dessus. Philip s'est gentiment prêté au jeu même si ce morceau n'avait pas été imaginé pour un chant, et voici le résultat.

Quand le désespoir pour le monde grandit en moi

craignant ce que ma vie et celle de mes enfants pourraient devenir,

This cover of the CCR version of this Screaming Jay Hawkins classic began as an idea Josh had for Eclectic Collective putting on a musical Halloween costume. He was inspired by his favorite band, Phish, who cover an entire album every Halloween as a musical costume. Although, which song we covered was up for debate from the start.

Once we decided on a song, Josh laid down the skeleton for it on his '71 SG. Once we had a framework to work with, Ken laid down his rocking drums, followed by Josh completing the rhythm section by adding his trusty P-bass. Even though the song was now in its infancy, Carl summoned all his Halloween spirit for his dynamic vocal performance.

Now that it was sounding like a real song, JJ dropped both the key piano part, as well as his expressive organ in there, too. Mark wasn't far behind, adding his magic via the sax to the solo section, and strings in the third verse. Stephen came through with the spooky tremolo guitar and the fiery first half of the guitar solo in the solo section right after. And to put the cherry on the musical sundae, Tez brought the lightning down for the second half of the guitar solo, as well as the solo work that leads the whole way to the end.

We all enjoyed bringing this classic song back to life, and doing it in the spirit of what may be the most fun holiday on the calendar. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it. Happy Halloween!
