Recorded live over one weekend at Gargleblast Studios, Hamilton (Scotland) with Producer Andy Miller (Mogwai, Fratellis, Sons & Daughters), the album follows the historical journey of an unnamed hero through childhood dreams of becoming a pirate on the high seas, to first loves, the horror of war and the hope of one day making the long journey home. The result is something that will lift the soul yet break the heart of anyone who enjoys a ripping good story.

Covered a number of times by many artists and in all manner of styles, The Deadly Winters rework of this traditional folk song manages to slip it seamlessly and comfortably into their distinctly styled musical canon.

The video is themed around an off-camera and unseen 'dodgy dealer', whom The 'Ters have to pay, beat, charm or bully into handing over their instruments.

Filmed at The WEL Podcast Studio over the course of just one evening the fixed camera, fast edit video is a slick and triumphant return to the musical jungle and shows that The Deadly Winters still have a fair number of cards up their sleeves.

The Deadly Winters are a 5 piece band based in Edinburgh who have been honing their stirring alt-folk sound over a series of rapturously-received Albums and EPs. 

Armed with swagger, a thumping singalong chorus and a fervent holler, the title track of the EP is the band at their rousing, anthemic best. The rest of the EP doesn’t disappoint with the raucous anger of Liars, Liars, Liars, the jaunty tale of a war hero that is Sam Did Run and the epic, percussive Gone to Ground.

The Deadly Winters have led us into the colder season with a brand new EP – Raise the Coin.
The recording of these songs saw the band return to work with Producer Andy Miller at Gargleblast Studios in Hamilton, Scotland, the result being four lovingly crafted, historical-based folk rock songs that focus on the theme of people’s inherent lust for money, and the lengths to which they will go to gain it. 

Tracks from the EP have received play on Roddy Hart and Iain Anderson's shows on BBC Radio Scotland, Jim Gellatly's Weekly Podcast and Amazing Radio shows.

Live, the band have supported The Staves, performed with Megson at The IVFDF (Aberdeen) as well as appearances at Celtic Connections, Perthshire Amber (Dougie MacLean Festival), House Music Folk Festival (Kinlochard) The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Edinburgh Rock n Roll Marathon, The Southern Gatherin’ Festival (Peebles) and Kaleidoscope Festival (St Andrews).

The Deadly Winters - ever onwards | new collection of songs OUT NOW

Begun in 2019 and plagued by band illness, worldwide panic, studio closures, travel restrictions and the occasional heavy shower, no one would fail to forgive The Deadly Winters for giving up.

Possibly because of the endless trauma throughout the recording, ‘ever onwards’ has emerged triumphant from the ashes.

Songs of beauty, sentiment, the pure joy of nature and the raucous celebration of life itself, ‘ever onwards’ is without question the undeniable front runner of The Deadly Winters catalogue to date.

In May 2023 the band marked their return by releasing a reworking of the traditional folk song “The Cuckoo”, managing to slip it seamlessly and comfortably into their distinctly styled musical canon.

Come July, BBC Radio Scotland’s Travelling Folk show made ‘The Cuckoo’ their BBC Introducing song of the week.

Frontman and songwriter Chris Blair said: “There are many quite beautiful moments in this record, and we're very proud as a band to have created it. The songs have now reached a level of maturity and depth; it almost sounds too good to be us....”

The ‘ever onwards’ release is accompanied by a brand new video for the song ‘Twenty Years’ created by up and coming film and documentary maker Rory Easton.
