This EP reflects a digital music exchange between two youth centers in New York (The Door) and London (Bollo Brook Youth Centre) representing the best young emcees, vocalists, producers and engineers from two of the world’s epicenters. The collaborative process of creating music prompted discussions about the differences and similarities in educational systems, employment, race and racism, sexuality and sexual identity, and political issues around the world.

This cross-cultural exchange has been instrumental in helping to push our young people to think in bigger and broader ways, to recognize the power of music and art as tools for social change, and to embrace their roles as global citizens.

The Door was established in 1972 with the vision of creating an innovative youth development model to address the complex needs of young New Yorkers. Today, we serve up to 11,000 youth annually across our four New York City locations, including our main site in lower Manhattan, our supportive housing sites on the Lower East Side, and our satellite site in the South Bronx. The Door’s success lies in our commitment to meeting young people where they are and providing them with the comprehensive and integrated services, they need to reach their potential. At The Door, youth can access everything from health care and education to mental health counseling and crisis intervention, legal assistance, high school equivalency and college preparation services, career development, housing support, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and in a diverse, caring, and supportive environment.   

Since The Door's inception, our Arts Program has been central to our mission and is purposefully woven into our multi-layered support system to help ensure that all youth are connected to the full scope of services across our agency. We attract, engage and inspire all young people to reach their full artistic potential through an array of creative and professional opportunities. Youth develop an understanding of the critical role of art to promote self-expression, personal creativity, healthy development, advocacy and leadership across a span of disciplines in the literary, visual and performing arts.
