Did The Lights Just Flicker Or Was It My Eyes?

The Dr. Benway Orchestra were inaugurated at the stroke of midnight come the turn of the millennium. It was decreed that night that a loose group of experimental musicians meet anonymously under a full moon, to uncover the beasts they find there. At first the orchestra was more rumour than real, though tapes began circulating among the freaks of the borders containing fragments of broken song. It was said they once gave a concert at the top of an empty tower block on the outskirts of Dumfries. Other sounds - muted trumpet, vacuum cleaner, a cat's purring warble - have been traced to somewhere inside Carlisle.

Repetition, noise, and abstraction belong to the mystic. As a great philosopher once sang: "if you want the obvious / you'll get the obvious".
