Dream Chimney Mixes

At this point your probably tired of hearing us talk about Bosq, but if 2013 was the year of Multi Culti than Bosq was definately our artist of the year. Not only was “More Heavy” our number one dancefloor bomb, but over the course of the year we dropped almost every track from his “Bosq Y Orquestra De Madera” album at some party or other and that doesn’t even do justice to how wonderful the album is to listen to at home or on your headphones. By taking classic Afro and Latin ideas and mixing them with modern drums and production he embodied the Multi Culti sound of 2013 like no one else. And while many of the Multi Culti jams we’ve been playing are edits, Bosq provided the spark of original music that we hope other producers continue into 2014. Sure it helps that he’s from Boston and we love to rep our home city. It also helps that he’s a super tight DJ with a unique sound and a rad dude on top of that. So with all these things going for him, it was only fitting to end the year with a podcast by the man himself…

“I was kind of surprised when Eli told me that the Afro funk sound was starting to gain momentum in dance music, probably cause I’m cut off from the world here in boston doing whatever weird shit pops into my head. I really hope it’s true though! Either way I thought it’d be cool to put together a mix of homies who have been doing it for a while (heavily littered with my own joints, both old new and unreleased) of course while including some of the originators who inspire my music. All in all though, it’s just a bunch of funky shit that happens to have heavy Afro Latin currents throughout. Hope y’all enjoy! Then go buy my album after.”

The latest installment in our free download series welcomes Nick Warren and Nicolas Rada with their much requested take on Depeche Mode’s ‘The Things You Said’. As frequent studio partners since remixing Upercent’s ‘Pulsacions’ in 2017, Nick Warren and Nicolas Rada have become one of the progressive scene’s most beloved production teams. The duo have built a strong synergy over what has been a six-year creative swell, showcasing their original material on Nick’s The Soundgarden imprint, while also recording a string of impressive remixes for DAYS like NIGHTS, Get Physical, Proton Music and many more trendsetting imprints. Always looking for new avenues to test their creative chops, the duo took to re-imagining Depeche Mode’s ‘The Things You Said’ earlier this year. Released in 1987 as part of the band’s ‘Music for the Masses’, an album widely regarded to encompass the best styles from both ‘Black Celebration’ and ‘Violator’, ‘The Things You Said’ has stood the test of time and remains a high point on the seminal and much loved long-player. Nick Warren and Nicolas Rada have combined their extensive forces once again, knocking out a near nine-minute epic rendition which has not only been a staple in Nick’s recent sets, but also finds the duo landing more additive ever. At last year’s Opening Party at Unsound Kraków, DJ E (aka Chuquimamani-Condori) showcased their distinct hyper-charged sound. Narrowing it down to genres is pretty impossible, but there are fragments of Andean folk, cumbia and country music ballads, often carefully layered with a bunch of soundboard-effects. The result is a classic DJ E set. Many of the tracks played here were recently included in the almost 2-hour long collection Edits, which you can pick up on Chuquimamani-Condori’s Bandcamp page.

Years spent running one of the UK’s most forward-thinking parties, building an independent label Meine Nacht, and diving into modular synthesis have sharpened Beau’s ear for pacing and design. Her work ranges from NTS residencies to commissions for Nike and the WDR Studio for Electronic Music. Still, it’s this same multidisciplinary edge that you hear here, surgical mixing, grooves that never stagnate, and a sense of movement that feels both human and machine. This is propulsion without fatigue: a set built to carry you, wherever you are.

"This mix reflects the kind of energy we try to channel through Paradia: cosmic grooves, deep chug, leftfield rhythms, and a journey that drifts between downtempo and dancefloor. It's built around a steady, heady energy with tracks that keep momentum without big peaks or obvious drops. I'd say it's more about subtle shifts and hypnotic builds rather than hands-in-the-air moments, leaning on slow-burners and deeper cuts that open up over time. I recorded it at home in Delhi on a rainy monsoon Sunday, and the weather definitely set the tone: steady rain outside, heavy air, and that influenced the pacing and selections. The name of the mix comes from a track on our upcoming Paradia EP, tying it back to what we’re building with the label."
