Sonically, State of the Art is a concoction of hard rock guitar driven music, with a variety of instruments including brass sections, string sections, pianos and the works. Though a hard rock record there are many diverse influences that can be heard in this album, from metal to Spanish style to classical. Lyrically, it is many things, but most importantly it's not 16 repetitive and formulaic love and hate songs.
