To kick off this very special edition of MMD, we have resident DJ Rusty. 

Rusty prepared a heavenly techno set for us to jam to on our Monday Morning Drive! With August being South Africa's women's month, all the amazing female artists featured this month will show you the unrelenting and undying skilful passion that is driving the scene.

BIO:

Rusty and Alien Ash are the two pseudonyms for Ashleigh Roberts, female DJ based in Johannesburg, RSA. Rusty is the alias behind the dark, hard and driving techno beats, as well as, more melodic techno and downtempo, desert sounds. Alien Ash is the alias behind psytech and dark prog sets, depending on day or night 
set times.

With diversity and vibrance, Ashleigh absolutely loves tearing up a dancefloor with energy and verve to provide a space where people can let loose, let their bodies move and be moved. With a background in piano, guitar and vocals her passion for music shines through every set. Growing up doing performing arts also brings a lot of fun to her performance behind the decks.

Unique Repeat & Stoertebeker Live at MOYN MOYN Festival

As always, with a backstory.

Radion6, Super8 & Tab and Alex di Stefano were headliners of the day, with support from local guys including me. A careful selection of warmupers indeed, my slot was in the middle of the timetable. Taking over in a very convenient tempo of 124 BPM, with 0-3 people on the floor, the objective would be to attract and not lose. As a warmuper, you want to get into a groove in this scenario. As a warmuper on a trance stage, you need to get into a groove with as many melodic elements. 

Track 1 was a miss (even if it's absolutely beautiful). Apparently, I wanted to mix in seamlessly into the previous DJ (Soul Mirror) a lot more than I thought about keeping energy, and Massive Attack was a bit too low on energy.

To keep the groove, I needed to loop a lot (thank god you can do this easily on CDJs), so at some point I had 4 decks playing (just bragging). It all went pretty well actually, till the last track. The next DJ is already on stage scrolling through his tracks and you don't know if you have one more or not, and your brain is preoccupied. Techanza is again a piece of craftshmanship, but was too repetitive compared to previous tracks (It goes on for 4 more minutes).
