Obsessed By The Aeon

This was written in Ghana to Tim Brown aka Thornton's lyrics - based on a real incident witnessed on the beach in Accra. The song was never sung better than here by the wonderful Sze Foong. The opening track of our album, Embersongs. 

Drowning Man

The other side of my 2011 Christmas single. I've wanted to cover this Jon & Vangelis song for a long time, and Bernardo wanted to make a Christmas record so it was a perfect opportunity. Neil Anderson on big guitar!

Kusum

"Misfits, shadows, opium dreamers..." This was unintentionally a Lennon pastiche - it came out that way. Archived from a 4-track cassette recording from 1994. The album was called Daimons Are Forever. All music and lyrics, instruments etc by Neil McCutcheon. 

Dead Entertained

We had fun making this - perhaps with an M1 keyboard? (I remember It was whatever the Future Sound of London were using at the time.) This is from the Mornington Crescent Sessions in 1994-5, and Pete was the engineer.

This Addiction

This was recycling a much-loved riff, and taking the opportunity to revisit a song written in Ghana in 1998/9. Recorded on some afternoon off, halfway between now and then, and released on Embersongs, December 2006. 



Workshirking

This one's about Padstow and its May song on May Day. I've been there twice and it's unforgettable. Also for people with birthdays in May. Original composition by Neil McCutcheon. Mastered by John Hamilton at EQ.

My Germination

A love song about a red-haired girl, maybe influenced by First Girl I Loved, and you might hear a line of the Loch Tay Boat Song if you know that. So, this is a 99% original composition by Neil McCutcheon. On piano (and other keyboards) Mr Steve Athey of Essjay 68 fame. Mastered by John Hamilton at EQ.
