The Fundamental started out life in July 2009, as an indie/rock/pop four piece based in Whitehaven, Cumbria. The band is Alex Brown on vocals and lead guitar, Callum Hurrell on rhythm guitar, Ricky Grayson Storey on bass and Daniel Tyson on drums. 

After performing many times in local pubs and clubs, the band focused their attention on the bigger events. They stole the show at two of West Cumbria’s biggest festivals, Lakes Rocks and CockRock, which massively improved their following and reputation. 

In the months following the band focused on establishing their sound, which was straying from the indie pop sound and bringing in more rock elements (Note - ‘Chance’ & ‘Hurry, Rush’). 

Recently, the band has been performing many sets for local promoters ‘The Mighty Boof’ while trying to secure bigger festival places in and out of Cumbria. This year sees the band appearing at CockRock once again, on this occasion with a main stage slot, under the likes of Dodgy and Sham 69. Along with performing at Solfest with The Wailers, The Magic Numbers and James. 

The band entered the ‘Live & Unsigned’ talent contest for UK bands in March 2010. They have successfully made it through to the final, along with just 15 other indie bands, and will perform at the indig02 at the 02 Arena in London on the 10th of July. This is a fantastic opportunity for the band and has been well publicized in the local papers (see press cuttings). The judges for this event include Noddy Holder (Slade), Greg James & Annie Nightingale (Radio 1) and Dane Bowers.
