For my main website I wanted to put together an eclectic list of originals and remixes with a good flow. It's got the signature sound but throws in a little something for everyone: bangin' and chill, bass music and breaks, house and hip hop, etc. It's pissing all over the stale concept of genres and that is just the way I planned it. I make music, not boxes. 

The Funky Professor's Dissertation of Dankness

This was a very experimental dubby track I did years ago with an Electribe ER-1. Its definitely Adrian Sherwood and Bill Laswell influenced. It is a bit meandering and yet I feel there is some definite magic in it too. Kimo Muraki brought a lot to the table with the sax and vocalisms. With this I wanted to do a tune that portrayed the sad realities of life in Palestine but also the spirit of the people who persevere through it. To be clear I don't consider myself anti Israeli and I have a lot of empathy for both sides. Ultimately I feel no one should have to live in the shadow of a wall or under threat of violence. 

Sunrise In Palestine

This track was done on Nanostudio on Ipad. When I started this track I was thinking of the early 80's era of outside the box electronic music which is when the bass sequence came out. The other elements came from different places but I liked the way this sounded different from other things I was hearing now. It is danceable but melodic and doesn't clobber you over the head with aggro chaos. Sometimes melodic and mellow is good. I still think this one would sound good with a female vocalist too.

Sub Project 18

This was probably the most serious effort I made to try and get a proper dance track out of Nanostudio on Ipad. It is tricky getting a decent mix on it but this turned out well enough for what it is. Again I added some Ozone mastering in Ableton. Ultimately though not long after finishing this one I decided to refocus my efforts on getting back into the box for mixing and I was glad I did. Things had changed a lot in my time away when I went off the deep end on outboard hardware, playing in the funk band for a year, and delving into IOS music.

This is a house mix I made blending funk, acid, retro, and electro styles. I like the way it turned out, and it was nice being able to open and close it with original tracks I did. Tracks:

This was a funky house thing using the analog/Ableton hybrid work flow I had been cultivating and that was starting to gel a bit here. The Tempest and Mopho are doing the main sounds though there is also some Nord Lead in there as well. Also included is a sample from one of the greatest films ever conceived of by Humans, Rubin and Ed.

The Volatile Compounds Mix

Joey Negro did a great mix of Mass Production's "Welcome to our world" and this is a remix of that mix. I added lots of stuff on here, moog bass, tempest, bass station 2. I took a straight funky house track and jacked it up so it would work for bassheads, burners, and cyber hippies. Hope you dig it, it was a blast cooking this one up.

Raid On Milwaukee

The world lost a true innovator and keeper of the sacred funk fire  when Jon H from Fort Knox 5 recently passed. It hit me hard and my way of processing the loss was to do a remix dedicated to keeping the funk alive. I got to see Jon spin at Shambhala many years ago when he first appeared there. Still one of the best musical experiences of my life. I also got to meet and hang with him backstage and we talked music and DJ science for quite a while. There are many great things that set Jon apart from the crowd but what impressed me the most was how vast and deep his REAL musical knowledge was. Jon had been digging deep for many many years and his musical outlook was informed by so many of the same eras and musical subcultures that had shaped my own. His groove originated from musical realms much deeper and more eclectic than the festival scene that exists today. He was an alchemist of funk, forging new sounds from primordial elements and shaping new experiential planes for those of us lucky enough to catch him rocking a party. Thanks for kicking down the doors you did Jon. You will be missed. I promise you this though my funk brotha from the cosmic motha. We will keep the funk alive and when we do I know you will be there, dancing with us in spirit.

My Homey DJ Eliazar has always had a great ear for music and is an all around super cool cat. This was a track from his latest project and I loved it so much I had to do a remix of it and add some of my deep fried funk to what was already a sizzling track.

I wanted to do a raw stripped down weird dirty rave track and keep it simple so I could focus on learning some new synths I acquired. This is what came out. 

What Just Happened

Long before the overly simplified categorical label "Afro Punk" came into existence, bands like 24-7 Spyz, Bad Brains, Living Colour, Fishbone, Urban Dance Squad, Brothers From Another Planet, and others were forging intense hard hitting music that was infused with and informed by a kaleidoscope of divergent musical styles and was funky as F*@K. They picked up where Hendrix left off. In an era of superficial hair bands, it was the unique creative voices, soulful sonic sanity, and consciousness building art offered by such bands that enabled me to survive my teen years and begin to comprehend the true soul power that can be wielded by fearless musical warriors. This track is a Spyz remix done in tribute and modernized in the low down laboratories.

John Connelly's Theory(Funky Professor's Gut Bucket Mix)

Another remix from the Low Down Labs. I was working on some new bass sounds and wanted to have fun with an old funk track from the 80's. 80's synth funk and boogie is such an under rated genre, so much great stuff came out then. Anyway this was done in Ableton with some synths ands the Tempest.

In general more recent stuff is up top while further down the page you will find some of my mellower down tempo stuff and even some of my older material from my debut CD "Live Love".
