High School classmates, Dave Shelton and Ben Rushing, formed The Vise in 1977, and with Ross Carter on bass, became The Gas Moguls. Selling out several shows weeks in advance at Pasadena California's popular “Ice House Music Cabaret”, on a regular basis, as well as performing at high school events, backyard parties, and various nightclubs all around southern California, The Gas Moguls’ unique and catchy original songs, such as Crash & Burn, Crawl Space, The Rent, Daddy I’m Broke, Honky in a Babylon, We Got the Smarts, Boys & Girls, and Breaking Glass were among fan favorites. 

The Gas Moguls disbanded in 1980 and reunited in 1985 for several now legendary shows.
