The song emphasizes that they have "the freedom of the planet" to do as they will because the systems meant to stop them—the courts, the laws, the media—are either complicit or corrupt.

The imagery of blood on his boots from "going nowhere" captures the futility of trench warfare - endless movement that leads only to death and despair. The mention of drones adds a modern technological horror to this ancient form of warfare, creating a chilling contrast between primitive trench fighting and 21st-century killing methods.

The Political Critique

The chorus delivers the song's central thesis with raw anger: war is both sickness and profit. The phrase "war-mongers bitches" suggests soldiers have been reduced to pawns serving the interests of those who profit from conflict. This song tells the story of a man's flight from a traumatic childhood and his eventual, tentative return to himself through a journey to Aberdeen. Haunted by his father's death and the suppressed emotions that followed, he disappeared, leaving only a letter behind. His uncle celebrated his departure, assuming he was gone for good. But years later, the man has returned, having "persevered"—a word that hints at the difficult road he has traveled.

In Aberdeen, the man found the beginnings of healing. He joined a group that addressed alcoholism, learning to "crawl" before he could walk steadily. It was there he met a Danish woman who gently won his trust, and for the first time, "the storms inside his head" began to settle. The chorus frames Aberdeen not just as a place, but as a symbolic return to truth and self-discovery—the one place where he could "come clean" and learn to be himself.

The song unearths the roots of his pain: a mother who never wanted him and beat him systematically, and a father who was a narcissist, more in love with his own reflection than with his son. Now his mother is institutionalized, and his father, who remarried a sixteen-year-old, is on "death's door." Though his family has long since burned that bridge and no longer holds him in their hearts, the twist is that Aberdeen itself has embraced him.
