20 years ago when I was a 19 year old kid hacking it up as a clueless "Assistant Manager" at the Souper Salad by my parent's house, I answered an ad for a band called "Seen Enough" that had former members of Patriot and The Agency. They were looking for a new lead vocalist and I somehow luck boxed my way into the gig despite having absolutely no clue what the fuck I was doing.  After debating a few names including "No Survivors" and "Facemask", we eventually settled on "Done Deal". Luckily for me, I was also with absolute pros and they wrote all the music and I would record it on my high school gf's shitty handy cam and listen to it in my room while writing the lyrics. We eventually recorded a demo and played some shows and were good. My gf would eventually dump me and move back to Georgia and since my life was going nowhere and I had absolutely no job skills since I hadn't started cooking professionally yet, I flaked and quit the band to move to Puerto Rico and attend college. To this day it's one of my only regrets in life but alas I would never want to be anywhere other than where I am and how I got here, so I guess it was just the universe keeping me on track with my true destiny and meeting my true love. They ended up getting a new singer once they figured I wasn't coming back from PR (I lied and said I was just going on vacation like a wuss) named Curly and continued playing for a while and recorded their own demo which I still enjoyed but always with an undercurrent of sadness at what could've been.
I recently met a poker Vlogger named Osman who is a hardcore kid around my age, also Chicano and he records hardcore bands in his basement which doubles as a poker spot. Needless to say I started thinking about maybe starting a band as an older man and just tour in my 40's and have a blast. 
In the process of my reminiscing, I started thinking about that demo and reached out to 2 of my old bandmates Brian Lawton and Jack Freeland to see if they happen to have saved a copy and wouldn't you know it, Brian dug one up, cleaned it up and re-mastered it as a wedding gift to me and folks, here it is! 19 year old Ivan belting his little, chunky heart out. #CarolinaHardcore

Marseilles based Fructose Father teams up with the Londoner looper Oscar Mic, on a little funky noisy ditty called Yeah Boi. The song is originally a part of an upcoming release called YOU ARE STILL PURE, an album based on remote collaborations with diverse artists (mainly in the UK). Fructose father’s first album, “It’s Leaking!” was released on Float Rock Records, a south London based DIY label, home of the great queer-punk Forrest Flowers.

Oscar and Elyas met in Dalston’s Shacklwell arms a year ago, when Oscar was playing support for the band Mozes And The Firstborn. They all ended up going out in a big group and struck up conversations about making music. A year later, during lockdown, Elyas got back in touch with Oscar.
 
Fructose Father: “When I first started working on this bunch of songs, I thought they needed something. In these strange times, I believed it would be great if I got other people involved in my process. Yeah boi was only an embryo of a song: guitar, bass and drums, so I sent it to Oscar and he composed the lyrics, the vocal melody and voila. I didn’t have a precise idea about where the track should go, and Seamus came with this angry crowd and a riot energy and produced this Prince-punk-like song, which I thought was exactly in the atmosphere of the album AND the world we are living in right now. Hung from the rafters! Blood on the floor! Death to the bastards! gave it a completely new meaning and it was a  wonderful feeling

I made the video on my lousy computer as always. I had a very colorful and dynamic image in mind. Seamus sent me home made footage, and I asked my mom to film her dancing. The rest is just some people dancing and lip-syncing far away from each other, not so different from the actual mood. Well let’s make it joyful and catchy! I added footage of carnivals and cops. 

During my time in London, I would spend most of my free time on Dalston, and in one specific pub venue: the Shacklewell Arms, where I would see many great gigs: shoegaze bands, Chinese new wave bands, everything! It’s not impossible that Oscar mic gave me the desire to create this one man band. He was alone on stage with a couple of percussion instruments and a guitar, and created these funky rock/rap songs, instrument by instrument, with a looper. He was one of the first people I thought about for this project. Music is a great medium to talk about death, pain, depression, the more abstract, the more powerful it is. Bands like Flaming Lips or Radiohead made me realize that.”
Oscar: “I heard the demo and loved it immediately. I started writing these lyrics about the blood hungry crowd from a dislocated, slightly judgmental perspective. I kept writing and realized I was with the crowd! Right here where we are as history is being made I too feel the need for blood and justice as we continue to be ruled by a corrupt government that is so out of touch with the people who voted for them”

As cringe as this "Secret Bonus Track" is to listen to, I have to stand by being a piece of shit 19 year old I was and in all fairness, William Hung had just come on TV the day before and even back then I never missed a chance to make people laugh. This happened to be the result of me testing the vocal levels and mic set up before recording vocals and I apologize to any of my Asian friends and the Asian community and beyond if you are offended by my actions and as much as I regret it, I still do terrible Asian accents much to the chagrin of my very patient wife but alas, I'm putting this there now and owning up to it before you punk MF'rs try to play me and cancel me later on in my luscious career. We are all just people trying our best at the end of the day and People=Shit. You know which "philosophers" taught me that?*A little 47 person sonic boom of a nu metal outfit from Dead Moans, Iowa called Slipknot. And they were a pretty smart band.
