We designed a party to have young partygoers as an active agent in the creation of live art through lived and shared experience.

How do you blend a rave, a listening session to unreleased music by fast rising radr'd artists in the city, an artistic installation and a moment for collective consciousness into a party? Crazy, but that's exactly what we did.

We did this in partnership with New Culture Studio - an alternate form of institution by world acclaimed artist & architect, Demas Nwoko. With current leadership under his grandson, Rufus Nwoko.

DJ Mix by Talut Kareem and The Incubator Collective.

Talut Kareem is a Lagos-based visual artist working across several mediums, capturing youth in vivid abstract patterns in his paintings. From Lagos to Sweden, galleries celebrate his unique vision. Talut keeps extending his artistic practice across his multiple interests and ultimately, beyond the canvas. Recently, the DJ Deck is now a new medium of expression for him, creating mixes that capture the same resonance as with paint on canvas. Talut played his debut live set with us.

Initial mixed reactions when we put out word that we were having "partying as an artistic medium" had people engaged and curious. But, of course, some never understand these concepts. As a collective/team made up of artists and creative individuals who become designated curators in the collective, we understand our work is not necessarily fashioned in any traditional sense of approach of the everyday. But this party was designed to have young partygoers as an active agent in the creation of live art through lived and shared experience. DJ Mix by Twilight and The Incubator Collective. (An edited version)

Twilight picked up Deejaying in a very funny way after someone promised him a Mac, if he could learn how to do that. Not all promises come true, but Twilight has been able to harness the art that sits inside him and channel it through the DJ deck in the most profound way. Twilight played a set that cuts through language and time at our debut event, "T.I.T.I : Partying As An Artistic Medium" which happened September 2023.

Twilight's Set at "T.I.T.I" - Partying As An Artistic Medium

A DJ Mix from a set played by Talut Kareem at our Open Studio Session. This set is a music installation by multi-disciplinary artist, “Talut Kareem", playing a thematic open-studio vibe. 

The Open Studio was an experimental yet essential lab session we held for the upcoming release of our new zine called “Out-Of-Line”, issue 1. We sought a new avenue to open up on our process with our growing community and invite in more people to understand what exactly we do, giving them an opportunity to map the future alongside with us. So, imagine an exhibition but for a digital magazine — a whole room spread out with pages of the magazine, processes that gave birth to some of the ideas and some ideas that never made it in or will never make it in, all up on the wall and spread tables. Accessible as much as taking photos of it or even discussing it with friends or strangers, as well as our team who put it together.
