2023 was a very weird but also kind of stressful year, and my music project overall felt a bit like it was proceeding head on in no particular direction. 

If anything though that's more felt like the result of social platforms sending most of what I post or put out into The Void®, and general just life stuff grinding away at me...

But yet, I think what I've produced this year has been some of the best stuff I've done, writing with the freedom that "I may put this out, I may not", but also at the same time having produced enough tracks now to have refined my songwriting and production chops QUITE a bit by now, I feel anyway.

I've ended up with a collection of electronic tracks to make an album out of, so I thought I'd do that for the first time in years, on top of the more eclectic singles I'm putting out next year as well.

With all that ramble said, I present, Time... The Great Eviscerator.

Yeah baybeee, it's another one done. I'm well aware that I said I'd be less productive this year, but in all honesty I think all I've done is put less pressure on myself to do things. 

More to the point though I've been creating new stuff because I've wanted to more than out of feeling like I "have" to make things and force myself to do it. This, and the fact I'm just putting things up here rather to see how they do, rather than everything potentially being "an official release that has be to marketed" has made me relax and just write for the love of it... I think?

I definitely got to a point where I took this all too seriously and got way too hung up on the "tHe NuMBeRs" and I'm trying to not get into that mindset again and have the attitude of "if people like this, neat. If not, eh, I've got plenty of tracks knocking around".

So I guess I'm rediscovering some enjoyment in this in a way, and this is after all something I love doing, so... I don't know, I'm not even sure how my mind works half the time anyway...

Not exactly sure what to make of this one but here's something I finished off stream after somewhat half-baking it on Twitch. I think this was a more messy one that needed some focus put into it, and to scratch that "get shit done" itch.

Been in a weird brain-hole lately and it's been a little difficult to break myself out of that "plodding along" routine, which I think I need to do to be honest. Maybe I need to force myself to take a holiday or something. I'm fine nonetheless though!

OHHHHHHH... We are b a c k, peeps. Ay ay ay it feels good to get something done for the first time in months. Here's an Industrial Goth Club banger to celebrate. I'm still on the road to recovery but I'm at least able to park myself in the studio for a bit and work on some stuff.

I've been looking into some more studied mixing tips and techniques via some books I bought from people I used to study when I was at university, it's been good, man. I've not delved into the technical side of production for a bit. The artistic side though, in the spirit of the late, great David Lynch, no... I will not elaborate.

Sup! Again, sorry for being a little quiet lately, but physio and resting has had to be my main project of late so I can't put all my focus into long sessions at the moment. Hack Job Incision

Ah this was fun. I don't often revisit my older tracks, but I really wanted to do this one justice considering it's a homage to Jimi Hendrix who is, y'know, literally tattooed on my sleeve. And I thought it'd be great to re-do this with my more refined playing and production techniques that I have now compared to where I was back in 2019. 

I really don't give myself a lot of credit for the work I've put in to my improving my craft and it really does kind of show that you don't stop learning and growing. So yeah, this has been a pretty eye opening one to do for me! This was a fun one. I say that a lot but I was chipping away at this one for a while as I wanted to get it sounding "just so" for that old school goth vibe. I really need to make stuff where I'm targeting an actual vibe in mind more often, this was good fun. 

Also continuing a slightly different vibe for the artwork too as I'm getting into making my own visual stuff rather than warping stock Canva images like the lazy ass that I was. I want to get more of a visual identity going with this thing, finally, after 14 years...

Had kind of a relapse in the past week or so at the time of writing this, the post-festival/post friends visit blues have hit me like a tonne of bricks and the final few weeks of my current job are proving to be anything but a victory lap...

It's also hit me hard just how much I've missed seeing those near and dear to me after Download, my best mate's birthday, and visiting my sister last month. 

Thankfully some time out before my new opportunity which will have a schedule that will allow me to have somewhat of a life again will provide me a chance to see these people much more often than life has allowed me these past 12 months.

I've often considered my closest friends to be my family as much as my actual relatives, so not being able to be around these people is a massive drain on me mentally.

I'm still someway from where I want to be in life but hopefully this new chapter coming soon can at least get me going in the right direction, as I feel I've spent the past year stuck in neutral if I'm honest. Hence, "The Long Way Around".
