Season Two kicks off with a legendary documentarian: Ken Burns. We were honored to have a chance to speak with Ken about his upcoming documentary about Jackie Robinson which airs April 11-12. Ken also chatted with us about his career and what its like to compile history in the compelling way that he does.

This week’s episode explores the Kodak Colorama. A back-lit picture standing 60 feet wide and 18 feet tall in Grand Central Station in New York City, the Colorama was an incredible feat of Kodak’s science and art. Built to encourage shooting with color film, these impressive photographs were an iconic marketing display that ran from 1950-1990. Listen in as we talk with Steve Kelly, Kathy Connor and Ross Knapper about how they came to be.

The History of the Iconic Colorama Display

Our guest this week has spent time in front of the lens as an actor and professional skateboarder, but his most recent work is done from behind the camera. Intrigued by the cameras on a set, Jason Lee began his foray into all things photographic and came out the other side a talented artist. We discuss his upcoming book “A Plain View,” a collection of large format color film photographs of rural Texas.  A selection of his work from "A Plain View" will be shown at an exhibit in Texas from June 2- June 18th but in the fall you'll be able to get a copy of the book yourself and be able to see how beautiful and honest Jason's work is. Cinematographer Sean Price Williams joined us this week to discuss his collaboration with the Safdie brothers on their latest film "Good Time" which debuted in May at the Cannes Film Festival to critical acclaim. It's out now in a wider release so we wanted to talk with Sean about what is was like working with the Safdie brothers as well as some other film makers he's worked with in the past. He gives us some great insight into what is was like shooting with 2 perf 35mm as well as some of the perks to living in New York City as a film lover. Give it a listen!

We’ve been busy testing and making sure it meets all the expectations that exist in this passionate community and are looking forward to its market release in 2018. He tinkers, modifies, tweaks until he’s able to express himself in the best way he can. He talks with us about how he makes his multiple exposure work, about printing on unique paper and what drives the narrative he tells with his work.

While shooting their own photography work, Brian and Brandon Wright discovered that they loved the look that motion picture film offered and set off to be able to get that look in their still photography. So, since they had figured out how to hand roll 35 mm motion picture film into normal 35mm still film cassettes, they started shooting with it. But developing it, became tricky. They joined us in the studio to talk about why it was challenging and what they did to not only find a solution but to also make it accessible to the rest of the world.

He’s worked with a great list of clients like Patagonia, Ford, Coors and most recently Stumptown Coffee Roasters for a film called Wax & Gold. We narrow in on that project in particular, breaking down the film format and stock choices and how they played a role in telling the narrative of the culture in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee. We also talk about his work with Patagonia shedding light on the building of dams in the Balkans for his film, Blue Heart.
