The longtime gterma favourite "Sky" was originally released by Mathias as a double album in the year 2000 available through the then Klaus Wiese website. The Sky sessions are longform drones with an enormously uplifting character. For the new edition we condensed the best moments of the original release into a single mix and combined it with more recent drones produced in 2010 and everything was then remastered. The track "Opening" is one of the new pieces and runs a total length of 9:03. The album comes in a jewelcase with a 12-page booklet.

The Scandinavian summer is drawing to a close, already the nights are getting darker and there is a certain vibe of cold in the air. The Swifts have begun their migration and the evening sky is left devoid of their pleasant calls. Instead we have to make do with confused insects finding open windows irresistible and I have to share my lamp with bumbling Crane Flies and tiny moths attracted to its lone light.

As we bid the long summernights farewell, gterma has taken the help of five Scandinavian artists whose works help capture the twilight mystery and serenity of this special season.

1. Relapxych.0 - City Nightlights (2014 Remaster). Taken from the album with the same name, first released in 2010 on Ghost Sounds. Anders here presents a track from the remaster he was working on last year.

2. Havdis - Sweet Silent Solitude. Featured on Odd's 2013 gterma album "Nightbreeze". An early version of this track can also be found on his Soundcloud page.

3. Earth Vibration - Aerial. This is an experimental work in progress which Fredrik shared with me two summers ago. I hope we will see a full-fledged EV album one day.

4. As If - Sommer. Taken from Kenneth's forthcoming album "Havet", this is actually just the mellow introductory part of the full track, which wanders into dubtech pulse with that unmistakable As If-flavour.

5. SecondFace - Nightfall. This highly cinematic composition is taken from our only sci-fi themed album "Vega Colony". Frank's music also lends itself well to chasing the glowing evening clouds across the sky.

6. Earth Vibration - Radius. Another work in progress concept track from 2014. I often find myself going back digging through these folders.

7. Havdis - Glass Atmosphere. After sunset we are left with a dark and sombre atmosphere on this still unreleased track, which can also be found on Odd's soundcloud page.

8. SecondFace - Deepness. This track may well have ended up on the "Vega Colony" album as well. The CD-medium does force some tough choices at times. For now, Deepness has found its way to Bandcamp where it was released as a single in 2013.

9. Skyscaper - Noctilucent Clouds. This harrowing track is released through another of Anders Peterson's aliases and comes from the "Atmospheric Stratification" album released on Ghost Sounds in 2013.

10. As If - Dawn. Each dark night is followed by the promise of a new day. This particular dawn can be experienced on the album "Faraway Trees Standing Still" which we released back in 2012.

Midwinter Century

It seems we have survived deep into what may well be the darkest and rainiest winter for quite some time. As we have arrived at the very longed for winter solstice, it seemed fitting to mark the occasion. It is still a bit early to look for signs of spring (although I did see a rat chase a rolling apple down the street last night...) so gterma will sink deep into the dark season with this selection of tracks from the Grassow back catalogue. Apart from the classic droneworks we also immerse ourselves into the shamanic period of Mathias' more recent works. Thanks to everyone who have journeyed with gterma during 2015 and hope to see you back in 2016.

1. Gathering of The Clansmen. Taken from the live album "Beyond The Silence", these delicate tones opened the second hour of the Saunstorf concert in 2012, memorable not only for the performance as such, but for a veritable snail invasion.

2. The Arcanum of Jötunheimr. Excerpt from one of the longer tracks on the first disc of "Wisdom of Fate", the second installment in the Alchemystery series and one of the most shamanistic work by Mathias to date.

3. The Sleeping Forest. Taken from the opening of the Winter Solstice suite on the "Sonnenwende" album. It was of course impossible not to feature material from this disc. An intense piece of classic dronework.

4. Nightfall. The darkest and most uncompromising moment of the ritual of sunset, as the day must make way for the unrelenting night. Excerpt from the album "Dämmerung".

5. Silent Contemplation. This track also comes from the "Beyond the Silence" live album and was improvised on site during the concert weekend. An introspective moment where we are left to consider the lack of daylight.

6. Gazing Deep into a Void of Eons. Easily my favourite moment from the "Wisdom of Fate" album, this excerpt is filled with storming thunderous percussion and always manages to invoke massive inner panoramas.

7. The Coming of Dawn. A sister track of Silent Contemplation, this track is also well suited for late night wanderings through time and space.

8. Midwinter Century. Symbolically closing both the "Sonnenwende" album and this compilation this piece prepares us for the rites of the tomorrow.

David Parsons revisits gterma with a new album which was completed in 2015. Although perhaps mainly known for his panoramic and almost cinematic Himalayan soundworlds, on Puja he continues his more recent tradition of travelling the inner horizon. And in so doing, he also invites us listeners to undertake similar journeys of our own. Puja is a mysterious and magic constellation, fuelled by the spirit and discipline of the age old Asian cultures and philosophies.

One of the strangest and most fascinating aspects of ambient music is the way it can sometimes morph from sonic wallpaper -where it basically functions as a soundtrack- into an agent of transformation, allowing the reshaping of the perceived world around the listener. Some of Mathias' albums have had this effect on me before, and the Darklight Quest definitely falls into this territory. gterma is happy to shine a light on this now mostly forgotten treasure, originally released as a DIY CDr in 1998.

Here we stand again, at the end of another year that rushed by. These are dark December days with a very limited supply of daylight, mostly in the form of golden rays piercing the eyes as the faint sun drops beyond the horizon and comes to rest. I love ambient music and I love lifting the dark veil that now surrounds our world, expanding the horizons beyond infinity and understanding. Dive deep with us as we slug it through December, longing for the Spring.

1. Havdis - Deepsea Dweller. A profoundly deep journey straight into the abyss. Odd really finds his way to the near quiet seafloor with this enigmatic piece, found in full on the album "Novemberlys" [gterma044].

2. VelgeNaturlig - Knarr. More deep but now cavernous ambience as found on the incredible album "Húmus" released by the artist back in 2005, and later also reissued as [gterma031].

3. Seetyca - Benthic Drift. This is a short edit from this long and mind-bendingly hypnotic piece found in full on the album "The Luminous Deep" [gterma017]. I surrender to this dark current every time.

4. Earth Vibration - Sjöstjärna (Demo). We're still waiting for that EV album, however here is one of the strongest candidates for the tracklist. Fredrik wrote this already back in 2012 and it has captured my soul since then.

5. András Kiss - Three Stars Part 2. Another demo track from 2015 written by gterma poster boy András familiar from his Indo and Urenga projects. Dark, minimalistic and mesmerizing, all at once.

6. Patterns Of The Sky - Memorial Inscriptions. Subtle and slightly melancholic in nature, this piece first saw light on the 2011 mini-album "Ambient Letters". Here it is featured in the way it appears on the album "The Long Flight" [gterma018].

7. Ethernet - Windy Neighbourhood. Walking along another deep and mysterious trail courtesy of the ever interesting works of Tim Gray. Originally featured on the EP "Mizuiro" we also released it on "Tanuki Dreams" in 2014 [gterma035].

8. Undara - Cosmic Drift. Dark and dusty ambience and percussion with a distinct tribal feel taken from the wonderful album "Traveller" [gterma014].

9. Jason Sloan - Deluge. A short excerpt from the long and haunting piece found closing the album with the same name [gterma039].

Frank Vilbæk Jensen returns to gterma with a new album based on material from 2016. In Nomine Tellus is an album inspired by the state of our world and draws the listener into a microcosm of its own, where a tumultous storm is angrily circling the perimeter of our still peaceful shores. Annemarie paints this aural canvas utilizing both electronic and acoustic instrumentation as well as her own voice. The album follows "In Nomine Cetus" and is the second album in a planned suite of three.
