Kamakura, created by Nick Calvert and Mick Dorey now includes Mark Wright on guitar. Nick Ward Drums and Martin Haslam Bass, With roots stretching from the Punk movement in the late 70's through the New Romantics of the 80's and Indie of the 90's Kamakura's music is not only highly original but totally unique. Now they have recorded a 12 track album they've named 'Dealing With Liquids.' Described as Pink Floyd meets The Smiths; their wild lyrics and strong guitar driven vocals blend seamlessly with exquisitely rich counter melodies and sublime keyboard swathes.

Kamakura  “Dealing with Liquids”

Prog Pop band Kamakura are promoting their Album “Dealing with Liquids” in a variety of London and South East of England Venues, having already played SW London, Camden, Guilford, Newport Pagnell, the band go onto perform in East London during the Queens Jubliee celebrations and onto Worthing in aid of charity, they will then be Playing a regular monthly Gig in their Hometown of Hastings at “The Roomz” and Showcasing various London venues during the summer as the settle down to write more material, rehearse a backlog of other tunes and seek out a new Record deal.

Attracting music industry praise for delivering powerful lyrics and strong guitar-driven vocals, this five-strong band is described as ‘Pink Floyd meets The Smiths’.

Song-writing partners Mick Dorey and Nick Calvert front Kamakura. Nick, whose production skill was behind much of the explosion of German New Wave music, also worked on BAFTA-nominated UK films before turning his talents to form the band.  

Mick was acclaimed as 'the face of the ‘80s’ by Melody Maker magazine and signed up aged 17 by famous song-writing duo Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman (Chinn and Chapman).  From early life as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, he forged a professional pedigree with ‘Blondie’ (singing harmonies on ‘Eat to the Beat’), through to JJ Burnel (The Stranglers) and producer/manager Miles Copeland.

Howard Jones, who recently worked with Mick, rated their latest album ‘Dealing with Liquids’ for its ‘superb Floyd influences and thought -provoking lyrics’.  Hardly surprising then, that Pink Floyd’s own renowned sound engineer Andy Jackson agreed to master it for Kamakura.

.L.A.Producer Rudy Haeusermann recently reviewed a new track “Broken Heart” “I think it’s a massive hit. Very heartfelt, the chorus is amazing”.

Other band members Mark Wright, Nick Ward and Martin Haslam bring gritty and diverse musical influences from careers playing with Eddie Reader (Fairground Attraction), to bands formed by Screaming Lord Sutch and post-Punk outfit 'Party Animals’, all combined with solid Blues experience.
