A picture piece I wrote last year after watching an episode of of Star Trek: Voyager where two of the crewmembers were stranded on a small part of a planet made entirely of ice. There was a beauty to it, but also a desolate nature to the ice world.

"Good Ol' Jim" was written for trombonist Jim Day, the trombonist from Colts Neck, NJ who gave me my first big band gig. I'll always remember him for that.

This is a tune I wrote late at night in a practice room after running into a girl I hadn't seen in a long time. I really cared for her, and all the feelings I had for her returned upon seeing her again. I wrote this tune to remember her and the way I felt that night. The title is an integral part of the lyrics.

The first half of this recording is a 4-horn chart on a reharmonization I did on the classic Bird tune "Dewey Square". It's one of my favorites by him, and I was inspired to play with the feel and changes after working on it a while. The second half is an original composition and my current theme song, "First Contact", written to capture (using P4s and P5s) the sounds of aliens.
