Mike Schommer [Detroit] is acknowledged and highly regarded as one of the key producers behind the development of Dub Techno of the last 25 years, mostly notably for his partnership with Rod Modell as Deepchord until 2002. The DC series remains essential and prized artefacts for dub techno followers and record collectors. 

Mike returned after a break to focus on solo projects but also collaborates with other techno luminaries such as Steve O’Sullivan and recently foreged a mellifluous partnership with vocalist Milly James.

Ahead of his European tour in Berlin (Tresor) and debut live show in the UK, Manchester (Dub Explorations), this Verdant Session attempts to present the sounds and styles of Mike’s music. 

Featuring releases as Deepchord, Von Schommer, Lux, Techniker & Mike Schommer. 

MS remixes of Octal Industries, Vann Bonn & Upwellings & Fletcher.

Remixes by Steve O’Sullivan, Cv313, Deadbeat and Freund Der Familie.

I’ve been shuffling around the fringes of electronic music and club culture since the late 1980’s. I enjoy and explore diverse sounds and tempos, but always find returning to contemplative, deep ambient music therapeutic. Going back 20 years or more, Verdant Recordings was originally a home-made web space (way before platforms like soundcloud), and a means to share my ambient sets…. this recording reminds me of those times. Hope everyone appreciate this mix….records and CDs, recorded live, a little preparation but made with love! Thanks to ARC for their support.. we stumbed into one another recently but appear to be on similar wavelength!

American producer @strategydickow steps up to contribute the 382nd edition of the IA MIX Series delivering a stunning chill-out and downtempo podcast for expansive headphone listening.

Across a 20-plus year career, and as many releases, Paul Dickow operates at the crossroads of ambient, dub, and electronica. His most recent Strategy album, 'The Wet Room', his 20th album to date, was released in November 2023 via Community Library, the label Paul co-runs with David Chandler. It feels both timeless and of its time, fusing elements of climate anxiety with a heady aura of leftfield sonics.

Throughout his discography, Strategy has collaborated with esteemed labels including Kranky, 100% Silk, and Peak Oil, among others, as well as operating his own Community Library imprint, for an output as vast and varied as it is consistently stellar. He's as comfortable crafting hardware-focused, DIY techno as he is spinning long form experimental suites.

Strategy's mix is as wide-ranging, unpredictable, and eclectic as his music, spanning Humpbacks, Seefeel, Laurie Spiegel, and Strategy himself. It's an ideal soundtrack for expansive headphone listening or the strangest, grooviest pool party in the neighbourhood. In addition to the mix, we asked Paul all about his history, the Portland music scene, and tour memories.

Short Attention Mix 045 by Milo Bragg

Milo Bragg, a long-time key figure at Juno Records since the late ‘90s, has seen his musical taste evolve from hard club bangers to a more chilled, ambient sound. Inspired by his experience at Juno, he founded Future Primitive Records bringing some exceptional CD and tape-only tracks to vinyl, other notable projects include an edit of Leo Anibaldi’s classic “Aeon Fusion I”.

Additionally, Milo created the Club Rooted mix series, exploring the intersection of electronic music’s history with contemporary “non-dance floor” club sounds. Here he enjoys crafting mixes that blend old chill-out room vibes with modern warm-up elements , he draws inspiration from innovative DJs like Konduku mixing old records to create new sounds.

For the Short Attention Mix 045, Milo has put together an exclusively 90’s UK techno mix with a couple of tracks from the early 00’s and a heavy Detroit influence.
