I met Vinsen several months ago on a vibrant dance floor in Amsterdam, where our shared love for music instantly connected us. During our breaks from the exhilarating music marathon, we delved into conversations about his unique approach to DJing, leaving me eager to experience his musical creations. When I finally had the chance to listen to his mixes upon arriving in NYC, I was thrilled to discover another DJ who takes this craft seriously and pays careful attention to every detail.

Vinsen's mixes are a pure delight, as they seamlessly weave together a carefully curated selection of tracks, forming cohesive and mesmerizing musical tales. “The Path To Infinity”, that’s the name of this set, recorded from vinyl in St. Petersburg bar Kiki at the end of May 2024. The title was chosen in memory of Tim's younger brother, who died tragically in June 2024 during a voyage to the South Pole on a research ship…

Shutupandlisten and Tim Ohta are a married couple who have been collecting vinyl for years. They occasionally perform b2b ambient sets, and Tim Ohta also spins techno, house and other electronic dance music by himself. At the end of July they will go to play at a festival called "Quadrat" in the Republic of Mari El.

The photo was taken by Tim in the city of Kronstadt, and symbolises that “Path to Eternity”.

We first connected years ago through Silent Season, when he contributed the beautifully drifting Campfire Stories 43 – Capsule in Orbit to Gliese 581. Since then, he’s been quietly building a strong body of work, with releases on labels like Phonons, On Board Music, Oslated, and Goldmin.

His sound sits in that sweet spot between deep listening and forward motion, dubby, atmospheric, and full of nuance. This new mix feels like a continuation of that world: textured and immersive, like stumbling on forgotten machines deep in the forest, still pulsing with signal.
