An improvised blues tune with two guitars while chilling at a festival, with a bit of reverb added when we got home :-)

The Tannerfest Blues

This track was recorded at home with a keyboard and guitar plugged into one amp. It came about through improvisation. It's the third take, with each take having it's own flavour. This track indicates a musical turning point for us - we had discovered 'our sound'. We didn't keep in time all the time to the backing beat, but we're not bothered as we are still in the early stages of discovery!

Ear Worm

Our band rehearsal time is on a Sunday afternoon and we are usually pushed for time. As with any form of art, when you start something, it doesn't always happen 'right' in the first take, or, if it has happened 'right' you might be too anxious or impatient for good results that you don't see or hear it. Or if in music, you have musical differences and can't agree if it sounds shit or not! This is one of those occasions. This is the first thing we did at the start of our Sunday afternoon rehearsal and the pressure was on to achieve something in the allotted time. This is all improvised and on this track we have kept in the pre recording/post recording squabbles/banter/sounds shit/doesn't sound shit as it adds to it's story and makes us laugh.

This is nearly thirty-two minutes long: about the length of some albums. We didn't set out for it to be this expansive. 
We've got into a routine now of, when recording in our DIY set up in the living room, having a brief discussion of what key and tempo, then off we go. We don't discuss style or length; we just travel where the wind takes us.


Mountain Striders

'Warmth of a Setting Sun' was recorded prior to Mountain Striders, but as it's only a few minutes long, it has the feel of a 'Reprise', as if it would be better placed (on an LP) coming in after 'Mountain Striders'.  'The track reminded me (Emma) of the end of a 'beach day' on holiday, sitting on Llandudno West Beach with Mick, gazing across at the setting sun one late summer evening, 2024. Listening to 'Warmth of the Setting Sun' it evoked for me an image of us resting our legs on the beach after a day spent 'Mountain Striding'.  Although we very much hadn't that day, we had been beach bums!'

Wish We Were There' began with a quick chat about what key/chords/tempo/drum beat we wanted and off we went with no idea as to how long it would be or the direction it would take. After listening to it back it reminded us of Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' and along with another track of ours 'Mountain Striders', the sounds put us in mind of our trips to North Wales and the Snowdonia Landscape. 

This in turn inspired the video. Using a combination of our our Snowdonia  holiday snaps (although one Dorset image found it's way in there)/ more serious art photography we wanted to create a video which was personal, intimate and ebbed and flowed along to the beat and atmosphere of the music, much like our wanderings around North Wales.
