No Cliché / Poppa’s Bag shows two sides of the Scissor & Thread aesthetic in its early days. Lightbluemover’s No Cliché stays spacious and controlled, leaning into tension and minimalism. On the flip, Black Light Smoke’s Poppa’s Bagis looser and rougher around the edges, built from dusty samples and a beat that sounds intentionally unstable.

Released in 2012 this EP still stands out as a snapshot of the label’s rawer beginnings.

… is the tagline for this latest of euro-collabs to see the light on Music For Dreams.

Made in Biloba Studios on the hills of Vesuvio, ‘Tutti Frutti’ is the lovechild of
Neapolitan italo-king Whodamanny and Copenhagen dj slash crooner Boogie
Rookie. Already a darling amongst disco-DJ’s and a favourite on funky playlists,
Whodamanny has chosen the upcoming Danish disco-star as a future collaborator.

In a somewhat naive effort to speak Italian, Boogie Rookie recites a recipe for Italian
fruit salad and declares love to his sweet special someone. To compliment the
spaghetti disco vocals, Whodamanny has furnished the track with a full Italian
orchestration: brass, strings, spanish guitar and backing vocals from some of the
toughest session-musicians of the Nuovo Napoli scene sorrounding Nu Genea,
Pellegrino, Parbleu etc.

Already played by top disco DJ’s and predicted to be the late summer Italian disco-
hit in 2025, ’Tutti Frutti’ is guaranteed to be heard on balearic beach parties and
cool discos all over!

Boogie Rookie, Whodamanny - Tutti Frutti - s0945

1. Space orchestra (Ilya Santana extended version)

Secret Soul Society, aka South Wales's Cal Gibson, continues his red-hot streak of form with four original jams for Hell Yeah that effortlessly weave decades of influences into intimate, unusual sounds that go from Balearic daydreams to after-hours soul burners.

Gibson was one-half of Nottingham's deep house and downtempo outfit Neon Heights back in the 2000s, a collective that label head Marco has long admired. He has landed here before with the superb Keep The Mystique in 2023, a 15-track collection of brand new curveball cuts built from lovingly sourced samples. Since then, he has continued to collide jazz, funk, Afro, beats, dub, soul and reggae on Paper Wave and Magic Wand.

'Happy To Be' opens with gentle, sun-soaked grooves, swirling keys and dreamy pads that evoke a hazy Mediterranean sunset. Nostalgic soul samples tug at the heart while the track’s laid-back vibe is perfect for golden-hour moments. 'Orange Surprise' is a magical slice of downtempo bliss with hints of romantic vocals. It's built on soft broken rhythms and drifts between ambient soul and laid-back electronica, perfect for introspective moments or late-night winding down.

'Keep On Trying' flips the script with more texture. The synths are crystalline, the pads are sugary, and the meandering bassline unfolds in wonky fashion while soft male vocals bring a steamy edge. Last but not least, 'What You Do To Me' is funky and slow motion disco with 80s synths and reverb that drowns you in good vibes.

This EP is Secret Soul Society at his most expressive and emotive.
