*** OPEN CALL FOR COLLAB - SPECIAL BLIND MASHUP EDITION ***

We have tentatively titled this track "Spirit Animals" and it is our open call for a project our laboratory technicians would like to experiment with. We'd like to get some submissions and then create a "blind mashup" of the contributions we receive. No other contributor can hear what other contributors are doing, and we won't listen to your stuff before doing ours. It will go into a vault until it's ready for mixing, at which point we will pull all tracks into the project and start working at assembling a mix.

HERE'S THE JIB:

1. Anyone can submit, but we will likely cut off the submissions after we have received a few of them.
2. You can do whatever you want. As far as key signatures go, we tried to keep this neutral but there are some pitched items in the percussion tracks, as well as slight tails from the song which is sampled here ("Popcorn" by the Upsetters). The key to aim for if you are doing something melodic is E flat. Sorry about that. Lots of black keys though. Just a recommendation, not a rule.

3. Once any and all submissions are received we will mash up your contributions with what we have come up with ourselves and release the final track. We also hope that all contributors will share their own version of the track, mixed by themselves however they like it. The version of the collab which you do is yours to do with as you wish.

4. We may not use ALL of what you do, but we promise to use part of everything we receive, and we may indeed end up using ALL of it if we can. We will probably also do some digital manipulation in the final mix so consider everything at least somewhat subject to change. We will try our best to remain faithful to the spirit of your contributions.

While Nashville is known for being a "music town" and there certainly was no lack of music to be heard, there was something sinister and dark lurking beneath the surface of the polished cover bands and heavily commercial storefronts. Something that smelled like the putrified rotten flesh of the shambling zombie music has in many ways become.

All audio and video recorded on an iPhone 7, on location at various points around downtown Nashville.

Featuring music created by the WADE project on the pedestrian bridge across the Cumberland River. Electronic/ambient music produced by flow and temperature data gathered from USGS on the Cumberland River, the Harpeth River, and Richland Creek. The rest was captured walking up and down broadway on a Friday night while it was jammed full of thousands of inebriated people, as well as field recording of an idling train engine.

In our long history together communing through the Mystic Tape Deck, we have recorded tons and tons of ooey-gooey-experimental-goop in addition to our more structured musical forays. This is the place where we will share that material from across the oxide layer.
Put on your heavy atmosphere gear and dive in.

Most of this is two primary artists, but also a rotating cast of invisible trans-corporeal weirdos who magically materialized in our studio at the perfect moment when the tape was running. Also, a few unsuspecting folks were captured along the way. We keep them all in elaborately adorned cages, but it is a pleasant 72 degrees all of the time.
