In this episode of The Sunset Lovers, we have a lush combination of magic Mushrooms, natural hallucinogenic and deep exotic sound coming straight out from Italy and very special guests to me,  the kings of Slo Tempo, Mushrooms Project.

Mushrooms Project are Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano, producers and serial collectors of vinyl, who joined up through a love of DJing and a passion for all forms of music. The project came into being in 2003 when Giorgio, a punk band drummer and vinyl collector with a strong preference for anything from psychedelic rock to Afro, meets Marco a deejay since 1994 who mixes every possible kind of dance music; from afro to house, passing through techno and progressive.

The first step was to put their affinities together and create a dj duo with a strong experimental and eclectic inclination. In 2006 Marco and Giorgio move into more slo-mo sounds, offering low bpm music with psychedelic influences but also taking in funk, pop, afro and disco house. The following year the duo turn to producing their own music and get noticed by Stevie Kotey and Paul Murphy who push them to their first release.

Bear Funk, Electric Minds, Under The Shade, Tirk, Pizzico, Slow Motion, Is it Balearic!, Uber, Hell Yeah!, Leng, Jansen Jardin, Ene Japan have all released music by the Mushrooms and these labels mark their first ten years of production activity.

Their name says it all: their music is hallucinating but all encompassing,  sometimes more balearic, sometimes just more freaky, and are made of analog instruments such as guitar, bass, synth and percussive sounds to create a “dirty” but unique background in the very long, deep, mesmerizing and unusual minds of the Mushrooms.

Its lockdown 3, we're all a bit weary so what better tonic than a fresh edition of the Reframe. This month we support another of Leeds many up and coming talents with Mezla joining The Reframe with a guest mix for the last hour of the show.

DJ, resident and curator for the established club night Limit and @lwr-music (Limit x Revamp x WTS).  Event manager, booking agent & Resident @distriktbarleedsevent. Mezla has a nice versatility to his repertoire with sets weaving between different realms of house & techno, breaks, acid, leftfield, disco, italo through to slow chugging trippy sonics. His mix for the reframe falls in that latter chug slo mo frame. 

This month the Reframe kicks off the show with ventures into deep electronics with a slow building collection setting out at 90bpm and moving up into mid tempo 19 bpm territories. Featuring tracks from Plaid, Luke Vibert, Com Truise, D-Pulse, Lord Tusk, Romaire, Acid Arab, Cindy, Joes Bakery band, Erol Alkan, Get a Room, Payfone, Statues, Brassica, Move D, Derzian, Seb Wildblood, Acid Elf, Dircsen, Demi Riquismo, PostHuman, Zakmina, DJ Slyngshot, 808 state, Dawit and Pivert the Playmobill
