Yan Wagner is a singer songwriter and music producer born in Paris, France, who now lives and works in the southern city of Marseilles.
With his warm and crooning voice, he's been cruising the indie scene for a little more than a decade, releasing three LP of his own: Forty Eight Hours in 2012, a new wave, techno and EBM influenced collection of songs, and critically acclaimed follow ups This Never Happened in 2017 and Couleur Chaos in 2021.
He is the only vocal guest on Gesaffelstein’s new highly anticipated LP Gamma which will be released in March 2024 and is the concretisation of a long-standing relationship dating back to the early 2010's and a mutual taste for new wave, electro and EBM.
Parallel to his singer’s work he has signed numerous EP and remixes under his club oriented DJ moniker THE POPULISTS. Influenced by electroclash pioneers such as DJ Hell and The Hacker as well as rough House Music heroes like Green Velvet and Paranoid London, he released tracks on labels such as ZONE, Space Factory, XXX (NL) and remixed bands like Bagarre (Le Gouffre, a new new beat anthem which slowly but surely
became a club hit spun by a very wide spectrum of DJs, from Identified Patients, David Vunk and Palms Trax to Solomun and Dixon), Scratch Massive, Kid Francescoli or Black Strobe. 2024 will see new releases by The Populists on Chloé’s LUMIÈRE NOIRE label and DGTL.
While working on a new album and carefully selected collaborations, he is currently adding the final touch to the original score for Animale, the next art house horror film by French director Emma Benestan which will be shown at Cannes Festival parallel selection Semaine de la Critique.
