Aloma Matthews is a veteran activist from Bonteheuwel. Aloma and her daughter, Irma Titus on route to the Inter-Church Youth (ICY) reunion in Hazendal; walk down Klipfontein Avenue while Aloma reflects on the tremendous influence ICY and the broader christian student movement had on her core values her foundational years.

Driving Core Activism

Irma Aloven Titus explains, The Purple House (TPH); a humble arts cafe was founded four years ago as an ode to her mother’s generation who led the Purple Rain protest of 1989. TPH emerges in Bonteheuwel as a working model for local cultural hubs. 
TPH is concerned with 'co-creating access'. Passionate about fulfilling the need for those rooted in the community to build it, TPH undertakes creative arts & multimedia projects by involving grassroots or township based innovation in order to promote active citizenship, community and personal development. The humble arts cafe becomes an immersive reminder that people live here. #HierBlyMensa
