The B12 story started back in the early nineties when @mikegolding and Steve Rutter helped define the UK's intelligent techno and early electronica scene. Releasing on their own self-titled label as well as Warp, they turned out cult classics like Electro-Soma. From 1996, they took the best part of a decade off before returning in 2008. To this day, the music remains firmly in the future, with sci-fi designs and languid rhythms unfolding in cinematic fashion.

And that plays out in this week's brilliantly atmospheric podcast. It's a sensitive journey through an expansive world of glistening electronics and synth-laden sounds. Rhythms nod to IDM, braindance, techno and bass. As the tempos vary, tender and thoughtful passages sit happily next to more muscular and physical workouts. Few artists get such beauty out of their machines as B12.

Ostgut Ton aficionado Anthony Parasole has helped keeping New York techno in the headlines over the last decade. The long time Halcyon store worker is not only a co-partner in Deconstruct Music with Levon Vincent, but he also runs his own no holds barred label, The Corner.  There is a very real sense of grit and streetwise attitude in everything he does, from the music he makes to the sets he lays down, and that raw energy never fails to consume all those who experience it. 

The podcast he serves up here is a near three hour live recording of him playing a warm up set on home turf at Output, New York.  As such it finds him really stretching his legs, starting out dark and atmospheric before journeying into more airy ambience, melodic slo jams and spaced out techno. Keeping a vibe alive for extended periods of time is no mean feat, but is something that Parasole truly excels as evidence here when he invites you deep down into his very personal rabbit hole.

The French electronic music scene is ever changing, it never tends to stand still for too long. However, there are several key faces and figures who make it rather special in the sense that they continue to do their thing, unphased, unchanged over time. From this they have forged fully fledged careers, often with a special sense of expertise in style and genre.

Molly is perhaps one of the defining pioneers of this era of French musicians. 

As the founder of Récit de Voyage she has championed a wave of new producers who have taken things deeper than before, focussing on dense moody soundscapes and the tightly tuned fundamentals of dance music. Some call it minimal, some call it micro house, some call it tech house. In all honesty that doesn't matter, what it does do is captivate dancefloors through powerful, emotionally provocative energy which allows dancers to lose themselves in a transient, heads down state which is simply stunning to experience and observe. 

Molly has herself released music via the likes of Giegling, Groovement, RDV Music and Aku. She is one of the tightest dj's around and we are delighted to be able to feature her as part of this series.

Whatever it may be that one looks up when it comes to electronic music, wherever one may search to gather information about the worldwide music phenomenon called Techno, you will come across the name Roman Flügel at some point. The former Frankfurt resident and now Berliner by choice has traveled the world to spread his approach of electronic music, music that in the course of the years has been released on either one of his co-founded or influental imprints like Ongaku Music, Klang Elektronik and Playhouse, or saw the light of day on renowned international output platforms like ESP Institute, Mule Musiq, Hivern Discs, Dial, Correspondant or Live At Robert Johnson. And after more than two decades playing an active part in the scene or being a driving force of certain movements within, Roman Flügel has managed to stay on top of his game – most likely because he does not perceive it as such. Always reinventing, always curious, always on the look-out to combine new and old, always balacing the music and himself out to find the right approach to conquer new frontiers, always creating the unpredictable or moments in music with a whiff of experimental and abstract wefts. Roman's contribution to the art:cast series, namely episode #90, seizes the initially mentioned approach of his music and sees the artist putting together a two-hour lasting journey through former influences. While the first hour or first 60 minutes are a “homage to Jay Denham and his Black Nation label - records that came out in the second part of the 90's and combine the Funk and ruthlessness that is still a pillar and of high significance for a good Techno track“, according to Flügel, the second hour is dedicated to more calm and abstract sounds and marks a counterpart to the first hour.  “Those two poles have provided the framework“ for Roman's creativity up till now and will surely be an inspiration for many up- and coming artists out there.
