On the 12th of April 1961, Yuri Gagarin was launched into orbit for the first and - so they tell us - the last time. Upon returning to Earth, Yuri became a global hero, travelling the world to tell of his adventure. Secretly, he was plagued by strange hallucinations and a persistent glow around his vision; a cornucopia of colour in a constant corona. At first fearing madness, the cosmonaut came to see these apparitions as a signal, an invitation, a welcoming beacon from a distant lighthouse blinking across the cosmic void. 

Taking inspiration from early Detroit techno culture, under the moniker Tony Neptune Leeds-based producer and artist Sam Jefferies is on a mission to tell a multi-sensory story through image, sound and text. A talented DJ and part of the Dimensions DJ Directory family, Sam has become synonymous with deep diving marathon sets both as Tony Neptune and as Yuri, solo or alongside fellow Leeds stalwart Mark 'Turbo' Turner.

After working hard on his production efforts over the last few years, his debut EP Reflections on a Daring Escape is finally seeing the light of day on Twelve Comets. Both sonically and aesthetically (Sam's visual work as a painter is at the core of the release), the 4-track release journeys deep into the cosmos, touching on the more celestial, emotive elements of electro and techno.

This Is Our Time welcomes Aspetuck from the US to their label family with 'The Time Capsule Experiment' EP. His three original tracks are ranging from house, breakbeat to electro but all of them come with a nice twist. Jazzy chord & odd vocoder sounds accompany a cosmic soundscape on the EP starter 'Lift Point' and with tweaked chirps & eastern strings on a bare breakbeat, 'The Time Capsule Experiment' is definitely the most leftfield one on this EP. Closing off the release is the sinister electro 'Solace' of which we can only imagine a demon-summoning tribal ritual was the inspiration.
The EP comes with two remixes. Jeigo's rethinking of the title track is a meetup of two worlds: an aerial stomper for closing your set in the early morning hours. The dubby trance remix of 'Lift Point' is from the label boss Route 8 - his synth pads have never been so trippy like this!

The machine whirred and kickstarted into life - strange sounds emerged from its core as shivers and rumbles echoed in the large empty warehouse in which they watched. A strange ambient, rhythmic performance was underway. It was enchanting to watch and listen to the bizarre sounds which emerged and meandered between all four corners of the large empty room. The sound bounced and radiated with electric precision and left each listener enchanted and spellbound. 

afinss is the Rhythmical Ambient project of Lootbeg & Bajazo a friend in need sound system. The pair have worked to produce a delicate new EP, an intriguing, atmospheric affair which comes recommended.

Son Of Sound loads the chamber and pulls the trigger on appropriation in underground music and the submissive behavior that strengthens corporate, media and government control. This one is dark, unapologetic and is talking to you! ‘Smoke’ is a 120bpm grinding ode to the underground’s gate keepers. The lyrics chide - “Now, now you wanna clean up your act but you don’t hear music that’s black. You just hear music, Is that a fact?” ‘Critical Thinking’ features the lyrical acrobatics by underground DJ and producer veteran Elbee Bad (The Prince Of Dance). Elbee’s lyrics sit on top of a soulful yet dark and twisted groove made for the early mornings of the NY underground’s past. Elbee’s hook is infectious and anchors down verses that are tailored made for those confused and abandoned masses that were fed-up long before the pandemic. Yes the tracks feature his signature twisted sound of samples, synths, jazz, funk, hip-hop and house, but this one is deﬁnitely about the message. Listen to the words.

Several toxic relationships, a myriad of lost jobs and unsuccessful opportunities, not to mention the countless mishaps, had seemed to be the dish of the day since his youth. Luck had never been on his side and things just didn't seem to go his way; he'd come to terms with living with it after all these years. 

Previously shrouded in mystery, Brother Nebula is the moniker of dance music veteran Lance Desardi who, over the last few years, has crafted cosmic and atmospheric breaks and house. He made his debut on Legwork back in 2018 with a collaborative EP alongside Solar, before quickly following it up with his first solo releases on the same label. Last year saw him land on Nick Höppner's Touch From A Distance, but now he makes a triumphant return to Legwork once again for The Physical World, an album of retro-futurist and interstellar electronics.
