Born and raised in Indonesia, @omarjoesoef-1 built this EP with samples of old records of ethnic music that he has found in an abandoned radio station on Java island. Named Lokananta, it is one of the first radios setting up in Indonesia in the 50’s. The recordings in Omar’s EP come from rituals and meditative chants of one of the last tribes still living in the ancient way, completely disconnected from the modern world.

Exclusive: Ponty Mython - Onimano X991

It's been a moment since Ponty Mython, Alex Pletnev's anagram alias and one of the many monikers the artist calls his own, drops his first full EP, Onimano X991, after having taken some time off, at least from producing more housier music. According to the artist, he's dedicated himself to computer games, where he found new inspiration in the earlier Need for Speed series, invested into crypto currencies and shaved his beard off. Actually Alex has become an ordinary human being over the past months before joining the electronic music scene again for his EP on Not An Animal Records. Before the release of it in a few days, the artist speaks about the scene in and around Opium Club in Vilnius, that he took things way too serious a few years back, how a bar saved his life and of course the EP itself.

It's a wonder how any form of life survived out here in the desert. The dry conditions and the lack of means of hydration could deter even the strongest human beings; it was no place to set up camp. Many animals called this place home though: there were a myriad of birds that nested amongst the cacti, mountain wolves and lions that stalked for miles hunting down prey, and even turtles roaming the dust-smattered land. Home is where you make it.

Guadalajara-based DJ, producer and visual artist Alf Champion gears up for the release of his debut LP Sour N Sweet on Funcanglong Files, the label he co-helms with fellow Mexican producer Mufti. With releases and tracks under his belt on the likes of Optimo Music, New Day Everyday and Electric Shapes, he now turns his attentions to his first fully realised records, taking us on a ride through sounds to tantalise your tastebuds, from psychedelic slow burners to guitar-saturated electronica and off kilter club music.

After traveling to Central America BELLY DANCE SERVICES continues their journey further south: The fifteenth release of the Austro Turkish label is called TZANTZA. A genius joint venture between RANDOM ATLAS from Santiago de Chile and MARZIAN from Buenos Aires. The EP features saxophone player JOSÉ PEDRO CÓRDOVA as well as remixers CORNELIUS DOCTOR and OBERST & BUCHNER!

EP name giver TZANTZA is an epic piece of story telling filled with lively percussions, charming saxophone play and a captivating baseline. If this track were a movie it would be the latino version of Stranger Things directed by David Lynch.

The remix of TZANTZA comes from one of Viennas finest couples: OBERST & BUCHNER. Currently working on their album the co-heads of HEIMLICH MUSIC carved out a crunchy synthi stomper that brings extra pleasure to every room.

With their second original track BARRICADA the admirable trio from South America again proves their willingness to tear down barriers between traditional disciplines of electronic dance music. Therefore they simply just had to also give birth to a club version of this alluring obscurity. 

At last french producer CORNELIUS DOCTOR added his unique touch to BARRICADA. The co-head of Lyons HARD FIST RECORDS checks in with a floor filler or no, let’s call it a fancy boredom killer!

London-based Greek artists and Inside Out Records bosses Stavros Potamitis, aka Stevie R, and Constantinos Parisinos, aka Parisinos join Roam Recordings with three original offerings. Both the title track, Martian Judy, and Bugs in a Hurricane are synth laden low slung jams perfect for catching a steady groove or for just zoning out. Remina keeps the theme of dreamy synths while picking up the tempo with an upbeat mood. The EP is accompanied by a sublime remix from Glasgow-based MR TC who takes Martian Judy further into dreamy acid territory.

PREMIERE: Stevie R & Parisinos - Martian Judy (MR TC Remix) [Roam Recordings]

Cosmo Vitelli presents MEDHEAD REMIXES a digital-only LP featuring remixes from his third album MEDHEAD, released on I’m a Cliché in 2022, which included five tracks created in collaboration with Dutch artist Truus de Groot.
 
Featuring 8 tracks plus an instrumental version, its release a year after MEDHEAD is an opportunity to close this chapter before the next one begins. It is also a reminder of the French producer’s love for reinterpretation, by playfully looking back on the album rather than being revisiting exhaustively.
 
Indeed, in addition to 2 remixes by Cosmo Vitelli himself, he asked producers he appreciates to pick a track of their own choice to remix, without obsessing on necessarily giving them a club dimension. His guests ended up exploring several atmospheres, with a varying ratio between ethereal and more dance-focused moods, sometimes combining both. 

It is always with excitement that Cosmo Vitelli remixes his tracks. Down The Hatch is given a “boogie dub” treatment, thanks to bubbling analog synths and old school drum machines, it is a catchy and funky exercise in less is more production. His remix of How Is It To Be You is an elegant exploration of disco-adjacent atmospheres and arrangements. It does a lot with just a handful of elements and functions as a kind of disco dub, simple from a distance and full of detail when closely listened to.

Andrei Rusu is one half of Romanian duo Khidja. His remixes of How Is It To Be You (one vocal version and one instrumental) are dancefloor-focused cuts, with a catchy vibe in part indebted to 80’s dance genres. Underneath the shiny veneer, ominous synths on the verge of dissonance hint at something darker, like the soundtrack of a forgotten giallo.
A long-time friend of Cosmo’s and a producer recognized for his mind-melting output that spans many genres, Krikor remixes 7 Foot Clown In My Bed. The remix sees Krikor in top dub form, with a 10-ton heavy beat, slow, and hallucinogenic. It’s impossible not to sway in slow motion while playing it.

Krokakai came to Cosmo’s attention following his debut release on Glasgow’s Insible, Inc. His version of Trichophilia blends a subdued post-punk approach with more modern production techniques. The result is ear catching and introspective, almost cinematic at times, while remaining danceable.



Up-and-coming producer DJ F16 Falcon, who released a handful of EPs on Notte Brigante and Association Fatale, revisits Down The Hatch. With a plodding, shuffled rhythm and a leftfield, almost IDM feel, this downtempo remix takes the track into a new, forward-thinking dimension.

Dali Muru & The Polyphonic Swarm, a project led by Enir Da, is behind one of Cosmo’s favourite album of 2022. So it was natural for him to ask the producer to contribute to this release, and he picked Patient Zero. Dub-infused, and ethereal but also focused on movement, this half-step version is captivating.

Froid Dub is a duo made up of Stéphane Bodin & François Marché, who previously recorded music together as Bosco at the turn of the century. For their first remix under this name, they deliver a langourously understated take on Just Like His Dad that strips the tune to its bare elements, for a dub as icy as they come.

Cosmo Vitelli will renew his collaboration with Truss de Groot in 2023 for a full album, and this year will also mark the return of his Bot’Ox duo with a new release.

PREMIERE : Cosmo Vitelli (feat. Truus De Groot) - How Is It To Be You (Andrei Rusu Remix)

Tonylight, a genuine master of the 8bit music scene, takes the advantage of his long-standing experience in the sound machines’ design and production within LEP (“Laboratorio Elettronico Popolare”), to constantly change his set-up to shape new tracks, always maintaining a characteristic pure analogue and instinctive approach in all his compositions. “Lumanoide” sounds raw, acid and old-school, with unsettling dynamics and motorik rhythms. This latest album by Tonylight can be viewed as a fully-matured version of the previously produced albums that were almost entirely based on the use of Gameboy and Nanoloop. The creative verve is the same, but the sounds are full-bodied, deep, intense, and obtained by exploiting a recently produced Danish groove-box to its limits. Lumanoide is inspired by the unforgettable nights in the clubs of the 90s, and all tracks are 120 bpm, in homage to the Marco Dionigi's "slow motion" djsets. The name of the album comes from "Lumanoise", one of the synths produced by LEP, of which Tonylight is one of the founders.
