Pampa 026B Isolée - Favouride

Isolée's long and celebrated discography has taken him from seminal microhouse compositions, through lush, deep and dubby productions, to the melodically rich sound design of 2013 mindblowing Allowance. Any of this would be a tough act to follow, but the seasoned Hamburg talent takes it in his stride once again, looking firmly towards the future while paying tribute to all chapters of the past with the brand new two-tracker, Floripa EP. The title track Floripa' begins to take its form around a thick and dub-drenched bassline that moves and morphs with fluidity, as tiny percussive elements orbit around an instant-classic synth melody that appeals directly to the heartstrings. The track's midsection showcases airy, spatial sound wizardry, with shimmering cosmic riffs on the core melodic phrase that cement its anthemic status, the latter third then subtly shifts gears again, amplifying the bottom end, and rooting it into a deep, urgent groove. B-side Favouride' begins to unfold with metallic percussive accents and spectral, voice-like synths that immediately establish the track's deep blue mood. A minor-key bass chord and windswept pads maintain the atmosphere throughout the track's mid-tempo, slow-burn progression. Smooth and sleekly produced, yet introspective and complex, the multi layers of rhythm and melody combine here for extra emotional impact.

Lake People - Tomorrow's Happiness

Biotop proudly welcomes Indian ambassador Pawas back to the label. One year after his acclaimed Versus Vol.1 EP, he’s back with the follow-up, Versus Vol.2 - this time accompanied by two very good friends.

Pawas kicks off the EP with Else, inspired by the open air club of the same name run by Berlin’s Wilde Renate crew. After a few hours dancing the day away with his favourite DJs, Pawas felt a strong wave of motivation and followed it straight into his studio - located in the Renate building just across the Elsen bridge - to write the song.

For the second track, Pawas teamed up with another precious Biotop artist: Mastra. Their track together, In Your Love, is a very special tune, with every musical element played live by the duo at Mastra’s analog cave in Bern, Switzerland. The final gem, Musk, delights with its disco influences, produced by Pawas and his Indian friend Gokul Rao Kadam in Bangalore, India.

Pawas Vs. Mastra - In Your Love

DJ Koze exists both above and beyond club culture as we know it – his albums and remixes flying free from genre and trend – and symbiotically woven into its heart. Yes, he always abstracts and weirds out the principles of house, techno, hip hop, pop, psychedelia, exotica and so forth, but he does that because he understands them. And when it comes to club-demolishing tracks, he understands those principles as well as just about anybody on earth.

Thus he could create an enduring club tune like 2015's “XTC” that is strange, contemplative, even disturbing, bore little relation to anything around at the time, yet still got bodies moving and sweating better than way more obvious techno bangers. And thus the knock knock album, which melts a million genres and none into one another, can comfortably include “Seeing Aliens”.

“Seeing Aliens” unquestionably is a banger, its bass riff snaking around your body like a python, its high-drama strings, pianos and outbursts of noise designed for maximum crowd pressure release. But, again, it sounds like nothing else, and its dynamics and twists unfold over eight and a half minutes in ways that will mess with your head every time no matter how many times you hear it.

The exclusive b-side track, “Nein König Nein” (“No King No”!), meanwhile, is slightly gentler on the face of it: it's less about sonic pressure, more about hip-shaking syncopation. But it too tells strange fairytales in its peculiar and brain-tweaking accumulation of detail, and though you'll hear archetypal sounds from the heart of house and disco in it, every last one of them becomes new and otherworldly.

The days were long and bright, each morning she had been woken from her slumber by bird song and the sun's hot beating rays. She hung her head out of the window watching the world go by below. What a beautiful day, she thought to herself. Bright pink blossom fell from the trees that shrouded the winding path, each petal floating delicately in the wind before joining the soft blanket that covered the ground. Laughter and incessant chatter filled the air as huddles of children made their way to school along the pink path. Spring had arrived and with it a new found sense of hope and joy.

Alma & Mater are set to release their first solo EP for Cologne-based imprint Ancient Future Now. Following a string of well-received edits for the label, this four tracker showcases their love for sunkissed italo house and sees Pampa's Ada and Hade put their own spins on the two originals.
