In the last few years, I’m a Cliché’s Edit Service has established itself as constant source of quality edits for DJs and music lovers. The concept is very simple. Every two weeks or so, the label shares with the world an edit made by artists from its roster or producers it likes, ranging from Trevor Jackson to It's a Fine Line, from Young Marco to Marvin & Guy, from Bot'Ox to Crackboy...
 
On April 20th, the label releases a limited run EP with two new entries in the series. This is a vinyl only release, absolutely no digital!

RED AXES – Der Sexa

 An elegant synthetic groove where lush female vocals, a genuine bass guitar line and plucked strings of an oriental persuasion gradually make an appearance. A build-up leading to a fantastic breakdown from the original track kept intact before the edit kicks back in. A distinctive and catchy edit that bears the Israeli duo’s unique signature sound.

The duo from Tel Aviv are long partners of I'm a Cliché. Edit Service #2 or #29 are memorable edits of the series. They also released 5 eps with the label, and their first LP Ballad of the Ice in 2014.

ROUGE MECANIQUE – Cosi Cosi 

Ominous synths, spoken word and an atmosphere that conjures images of dystopian horror. A slow pulse of a beat that gradually picks up and funcky guitar licks: there’s light at the end of tunnel as the edit goes from dark to hedonistic. 10 blissful minutes crafted with class by French producer Roman Azzaro under his Rouge mécanique alias.

This edit is the first collaboration between the Berlin-based French producer and I'm a Cliché.

Red Axes - Der Sexa (snippet) - Edit Service 001 Special Delivery

Jakarta based Jonathan Kusuma delivers a new EP on Cocktail d’Amore Music. After his European debut on Cosmo Vitelli’s I’m A Cliché, followed by a successful EP on Berlin’s imprint Love On The Rocks, the Indonesian artist keeps carrying the vessel of the Far East sound.  
The title track Black Magic is a fat disco-tribal inspired groove that builds fast, eventually climaxing with a cloud of acid synths and mystical vocals. 
Japanese duo Mascaras, Chida and Cos/Mes’ 5ive, straighten up the groove giving a 4/4 beats restyling. The result is a Proto-Techno, Trance influenced soundscape, for foggy late-night dancefloors. 
Urban Sorcery is an Italo inspired maze of proto-acid synthesizers, sounding like an enchanted concrete-covered forest.                 
90’s house inspired Redvox is an experiment of cosmic influences. As the vocal becomes part of the groove, the long pads fuel this spaceship pushing it to the borders of time and space.

LXRC31 - UnknownmiX - Chew the Gun

The noise rattled within the jungle. The green leaves bounced in time with the beat as nature sprung to life in the morning sunshine. The damp rose between the trees turning to steam in the heat of the morning glow as wildlife scattered between the beanstalks. The sky was a dreamy shade of pink but it would soon be blue, much like the waters which surrounded the tropical island. This was paradise and a place called home.

It is with much delight that we are able to premiere an exclusive new track from Superpitcher on Hippie Dance. Keep an eye out for more Hippie Dance affiliated content in the coming weeks. That's a hint.

The Golden Ravedays 05

PREMIERE: Superpitcher - Burkina [Hippie Dance]

The eighth piece of The Golden Ravedays puzzle will be released on Hippie Dance in August 2017. Number 8 of the series introduces two tracks that will take you to the far side of somewhere you’ve never been before. They are both reminiscent of outer space blues playing spooky games in a dust bowl.

Side A features Tuesday Paris Texas a tastefully arranged track with vintage sounds passing nonchalantly through a wild western aural landscape. The music is announced like a cowboy movie dual complete with bar doors swinging on rusty nails in slow motion. Mournful guitar strings swirl over a steady horseback galloping beat, expanding into a full-on-fire dance track. Halfway through a woman’s haunted voice appears and disappears like an eerie siren, a gunshot is fired (was that a gunshot?), a man whispers “what!?” Tuesday Paris Texas is in no hurry to give an answer.

[Emotional] Especial returns in 2018 after a supremely quiet 2017 as batteries were recharged and life happened.   In mind is the introduction of new duo, Weird Weather and their debut EP, Bamboo Room.  Slotting perfectly in the label family with 4 cuts covering dark basement club music through to calmer, balmier moments. 

LJ Horstman and D Thornley, conjoined metal nerds from opposite ends of the London suburbs who bonded over love of dub mixes, create Weird Weather. This debut collects tracks from four years of jamming, constructing, dubbing and re-dubbing. Cheap synths played with strict finger musicianship; deep bass over 4/4, clattering Roland drum boxes and analogue pads and submerged vocals calling out over the noise of the digital Coffee Maker.
 
Full spectrum of influences are apparent for the heads with nods to Yello, Jah Shaka and the Horn “Megamixes” of Frankie Goes To Hollywood and ZTT alumini – all go in the dub blender with a slug of 80s rock bombast.  4 demos passed down and the mixing desk homeboy honing of Mr TJ Fairplay and Jamie Paton are drafted in for good measure.

To start, Sequence 5 is a one-take body-music desk dub.  The relentless riding rhythms and faint harmonics pull you to the floor in unknown fashion.  Trash Dolphin follows as an aquatic New-Wave meets NY-house in-joke that went too far.  Sample bits out the window to reach nirvana.  

Taking the flip is Bamboo Room.  A sub 90 bpm, euphoric mind-melter for the post Ambient House generation.   The true winner with tranquil(ity) bass and psychedelic (research) lab trip shifts.  Seamlessly completed with the poolside ‘Ormus Mix’ for the suave recliners.  Thanks to Eric Dan for phantom support via the LCD screen. Onwards and upwards.

B1. Weird Weather - Bamboo Room

Following last year's 'Kiyadub' EP, Andrew Weatherall returns to Byrd Out later this month with a brand new 12". Having invited his mate Andy Bell (y'know, him out of Ride) round to his studio to buy a Les Paul, Andrew suggested that he test the guitar out over a track he was working on, which then became the b-side here 'Making Friends With The Invader'.

We're very happy to be premiering the title track 'Blue Bullet', a trippy, dubbed-out construction with a surprisingly affecting melody which tunnels under your skin and refuses to leave.

With its swerving bass slithering over a slow tempo, Leopard Gum is the perfect slow burner, a slice of comatose disco that will find its way to the darkest corners of nightlife – and haunt its DJ sets. The synths that come crashing across the track’s Smagghe & Cross remix add their saturated signature that provide a different kind of hook through its breathless nineminute run.

In fact, this river held many secrets, stories that would make your hair stand on end. Its beauty was simply a facade...

Next up on XXX, the Dutch label run by DJ and producr SHMLSS, is good friend and Bordello A Parigi alumni Stijn Sadée. After two contributions to earlier releases for the label, he's now set to release his first original EP on the label, which features a remix from Smala boss Manfredas that they locked in after the Lithuanian producer saw Stijn play live last year. The aesthetics of the label are down to Stijn's brother Thomas who worked closely with him to create something that fitted with the music and his influences.

Sulk Magic makes it's anticipated return with emerging talent Etane coming to the fore. Evgeniy Tanaisov has risen to prominence in his native St. Petersburg, playing an integral role in curating the syndicate OBERWAVE, and solidifying his residency as part of the Intertrax community.

His first release offers up two typically esoteric recordings, with a visceral and coldly sensual remix from Berlin bred firecracker Jennifer Touch, and a mid-tempo cosmic throb from label staple John Parsley.

Closely trailing last year’s Space Techno EP, and his recent outing as Herrmman/Kristoffersen, Daniel Herrmann’s new album; Electric Field sees the return of Ransom Note’s favourite aviation enthusiast, Flug 8. If the upbeat, driving Space Techno acted as the lift-off, Electric Field sees Daniel remove his hand from the throttle, pull the shuttle into low earth orbit, sound tracking the cosmos as he watches from his porthole. We know there’s no sound in space, but if there was, we think it’d sound something like this.
Setting the tone for what’s to come, the album kicks off with Night Effect. Grainy drones and swirling soundscapes lay the basis for the track. Hard-panned, delayed melodies and restless low frequency percussion ricochet off of each other as they slowly intertwine and settle, making peace with their newfound trajectory. Next up is Arc to Time where morphing, guitar-like plucks cascade around the listener’s perspective, jostling for the limelight like some sort of intergalactic wind-chime, while lush pads and chords evolve to fill the background from the outside in. The epic Continuous Wave sounds like it was composed for the big screen. The meandering lead wouldn’t sound out of place on Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar soundtrack, all the while whirring leads sound like Herrmann might have actually sampled them from an astronaut’s respiratory system. Bubble Cell, characterised by generous servings of analog tape hiss, fizzes over the top of slow churning synth swells, placing you at the forefront of an otherworldly environment. Inhabiting some distant molten planet, he somehow finds tranquillity within the chaos. On the flip, Herrmanns’s Effective height pokes its head into unknown territories, as a ceaseless lead transmits repeatedly searching for a reply, only to be consumed by the vastness of space, becoming lost beneath sombre drones. Pulsing synth percussion lays a foundation for Polarizing as warped, hardly distinguishable vocodered vocals give way to overdriven, plucked synths sustained by lush, neverending reverbs. Driven by a jittering lead and soaring synth plucks, Side Band is the only track to feature anything remotely close to a conventional breakdown - as the track explodes into a crescendo, we hear distant, saturated, guitar-like licks far off. Closing out the project is Cosmic Noise, which as its name suggests is unsurprisingly the most experimental track on the album. Surges of noise and distortion serve up a stark reminder of our place in the universe as it chews you up and spits you out Sitting on the floor of his living room with a complete arsenal of vintage analog synths, Daniel builds each layer of his unique soundscapes, one continuous take at a time. With Alter Ego’s Jörn Elling Wuttke lending a helping hand on mixing duties, Electric Field might just be Flug 8’s most accomplished work yet.

The Alameda EP finds the Junto Club expanding on the sound that has come to define the band, which is to say sparse electronics and percussive post punk underscoring David Wilson’s haunting suicide inspired vocals. On this EP the synths and drum machines take centre stage pulling their sound from the shadows and firmly onto the dancefloor, wasting no time with opening track Hercules’ 11 minute electro onslaught.

On the flip, enigmatic new producer Fall Forward follows on from remixes for Gabe Gurnsey and Groove Armada to deliver an overdriven, rave tinted remix of Hercules that breathlessly strobes through distorted Junos on a peaktime trip. For the final track longtime SC&P collaborator Curses leaves us with a punishing physical remix of Alone that is delves deep into the harder side of his techno tendencies and is sure to be assaulting the darkest of dancefloors once the clubs reopen.

Dj Power Point started buying vinyls in 2006. This passion grew into DJing and led him to the local venue “outrecord” when lived in Nagoya. Currently living in Tokyo and started track making using some drum machines and synths. We are waiting for masterpieces, but for now, we are watching the presentation, on the slides of which disco and house are presented.
