hree years after their first collaboration, culminating in the release of “The Passenger”, Om Unit and Martyn are back on 3024 with another four track exploration of tempo and vibrations on a new EP called “AJ^6”.

The two ‘veteran’ producers have been highly prolific over the past years, with Om Unit making waves with his massive Acid Dub Studies project as well as new work under his Philip D. Kick alias, and Martyn spearheading and mentoring a robust group of new musicians responsible for no less than five (!) compilations on 3024. What brings the two producers together in the studio once again is the constant hunger for new and interesting sounds on the outer rim of the ‘bass continuum’. Instead of tirelessly rehashing old tropes they are continuously inspired to write new music that’s both current as well as firmly in their aesthetic profile.

‘Basilisk’ and ‘The Trenches’ are great examples of the duo blending odd tempos with dub wise heaviness. ‘Basilisk’ has already been doing some serious damage on the dance floor with its punchy 107 beat structure and headzy breakdown, while the almost imperial march of ‘The Trenches’ introduces a bubbly bass line. ‘Illroy’ and ‘Dragonfly’ both inhabit a dreamier, more melodic universe and have a timeless, ambivalent quality to them, somewhere between a lost b-side of an early 00s Hospital Records release and something on Scuffed. A few weeks ago, I woke up in bed to find a letter in my own handwriting.

"The Assembly of Many Names, duly convened and vested with authority across dimensions, hereby declares, as a matter of immutable principle, that tracks imbued with the memory of motion must not be confined or withheld. Such works, herein referred to as 'dance tracks,' are to spill freely into shadowed rooms, loud, unhindered and unbound. The practice of gatekeeping shall henceforth be abolished."

This could only mean one thing: it’s time to put together a new EP series. Starting with some tracks inspired by Tokyo's dancefloors I got to experience last summer. The next volumes will follow in their own time—every few months if I can keep up. I wouldn’t dare to challenge the Assembly.

Hello humans! Story time! 

I am pleased to present you with a mixtape/ep/wip dump! While these tunes are technically incomplete in my eyes, I felt the need to share at least something that resembles a body of work in 2025.

I have to admit that most of the time during my brief stint on planet Earth, I’ve been exceedingly fortunate. Especially lately in life, it is not uncommon for me to be celebrating a W of my own or of one of my close friends or family members. But life isn’t only celebrating W’s.

Earlier this year, there was a small chunk of time where my little family and I took a bunch of (really inconsequential and easy to deal with) L’s. Some items were stolen from our yard and from my truck, some intense family issues arose, and lastly, the reason I’ve blathering on - my solid state drive for my main production machine in my studio failed!

I went to college for digital arts and have myself  been a digital art instructor, and I of all people should know the importance of several backups. If it doesn’t exist in three places, it doesn’t exist at all, as the saying goes. I think you can guess what I’m going to say next. I had attempted to back up my machine a week beforehand, but it failed, and I hadn't been vigilant about backups for quite some time prior to that. I lost all of the project files for a lot of the music I had been working on and playing out for a good chunk of time! 

I have been in the habit of releasing a body of work every year, and as the year marches steadily towards closure, I looked at the pile of WIPs I was sitting on and started to scratch my head. Some frequent advice I’ve given to friends and colleagues that are debating whether it’s time to put out music, or whether the music is “good enough” has consistently been “better out than in.” In fact, the words I usually use are “Those tunes aren’t doing anyone any good if they’re sitting on your hard drive.” 

So in an attempt to stay consistent, and to practice what I preach, I decided to take a handful of the tunes I’ve been playing in my sets recently, bundle them up, and give them to you, beautiful human! 

Thank you for reading my story, and listening to my music! Thanks to Omnist for being an awesome friend and very fun collaborator, and for being to down immediately to release a WIP.

Jake has been dipping his toe in and out of the music world with his impressive Contrasts mix series under his Ensision moniker while Aaron understandably took a lengthy period away from the music world after all of his music-making gear was taken after a break-in. It was almost dusk when I walked through the thick fog, compelled by a force unknown to me and drained by the lethargy of weeks gone by. I remember crunching the moist ground below me, toes hugging the dew and moss, feet tapping in rhythm to the bird melodies and siren calls. I found myself scanning the sun’s viscous rays and bowing before her grandiose presence, wishing that I could tell night from day.

Anna Morgan’s “I Don’t Really Care If You Want 2” is a percussive-heavy track, sweltering with footwork vocals and a pounding sub bassline. The track is taken from Shubzin’s third V/A instalment, a 12-track compilation featuring local and international talent including Estebahn, Thinh and CM-4.

All proceeds from sales will be split between two worthwhile services: Faz Amnesty and Steel Warriors. The former is created by knife crime victim Faz, who connects community members in order to swap JD vouchers for weapons, which he then disposes of via the police, and the latter organisation takes knives off the streets and melts them down into calisthenics training bars in public parks. Alongside this release, the organisations are working together in Enfield to build a park for local young people to facilitate a positive and supportive community, particularly in light of the previous year which saw knife crime levels skyrocket.
