03 Rigopolar - Surrended

The shopfront looked gloomy and mysterious in the streetlight. Dust sat layered in the windows and no light could be seen from within. The crew of revellers stood eagerly outside the door, a small queue had already begun to form behind them as they waited. Finally at midnight, the bolts were unlatched and it swung open. One at a time they were ushered inside and in the distance they could hear the sound of drums echoing. Below them there was a party underway, deep down in the basement, and they were going there.

"Can you sang?" shouted the bartender. The down and out hell hole had been falling apart for decades amidst the Texas landscape. It sat discretely alongside the highway as it had for many years, its wooden shutters blowing gently in the breeze against the old shack of a building. Inside there were few customers, the drunken women behind the til would shout at each customer who entered challenging them to sing. Her strong southern accent bellowed sharply through the quiet as she called for a "sanger" over and over again. 

Hotel Lauer is the project of Phillip and Jacob Lauer, two German brothers with a taste for percussion, synths and drums. Here is their latest release on Emotional Especial.

The tree sat atop the far away hill amidst a sea of long green grass and reeds. In the distance the child could be seen swinging from one of the tallest branches, heaven knows how he had made it so high. All that could be seen was his shadow against the darkening afternoon sky as he swang to and fro. No ladder would reach as far up as to bring him down. All of a sudden the tree let our a solemn creak, it began to talk and whispered to the crowd which had gathered beneath the swinging child. It spoke...

Based over the pond Suzanne Kraft has done a very good job of raising his profile in Europe. His sound fits perfectly on labels such as ESP, Melody As Truth, Running Back and now Kitjen. This latest effort sees him amp things up a tad as he releases three dance floor targeted tracks on the 'DJ Safety' EP.

The tables had turned on the world of spirituality. What had once been a thing so profound and adored had become black. Higher powers were at work beyond the understanding of those on earth, their worhsip had once been kind, loving and good but now the mass was tarred by a haunting set of moral judgements and all encompassing beliefs. This was a black mass. 

Amir Alexander has always had a close affiliation with Argot as a label, in 2012 he was the first artist to release on the imprint. Now he returns offering up a three track EP titled "The Butterfly".

One gun hung behind the bar, never had it been used before but there was an ever growing sense of tension amidst the gathering drunks. In the corner of the room a glass fell and smashed to pieces, this was met by a roar of laughter from the gang of youths to the left. The barman shifted nervously on his feet and glanced around the room. He dreaded the moment in which he might have to take action, make a move and use that gun, that lonely gun, that solo gun.

In the pivotal period before the end of Apartheid, the fluff of bubblegum was starting to boil over into what later became the tougher township-centric sounds of kwaito. Amidst this volatile and transitional climate a mysterious kid named Eddie Magwaza started making moves in the studio, creating music for a vibrant street dance style that was blowing up in SA, called pantsula. At the time, other groups were also starting to create faster and more instrumental dance music which suited this agile style of dancing, but on this album Magwaza managed to channel the cosmic chant of italo and the sweaty energy of early house music in a unique and peerless way that has captured the ears and feet of DJs and dancers around the world many years later.

Magwaza, who wasn't even 20 when he made this album, had the help of seasoned studio whizzes Lucky Matante & Jan Smit with programming, sequencing and engineering, and their studio mastery really takes flight on the dub version of the title cut which has made the album so desirable in the last few years. Sadly Magwaza was shot and killed shortly after the release of the album and it stands as the last testament to his brilliant vision.

Remastered and pressed on a loud 12" Mashisa is once again available to spread the pantsula spirit to dancing bodies everywhere. Artwork by Jessica Greene.

Black Magic sets an optimistic tone for what is to come from this new label.  Intoxicatingly hypnotic and full of warmth, this track reminds us that it is always summer somewhere.
If Black Magic is essential in warming a party up, God Bless Atheism is the perfect way to bring us softly down on the other side.  A modern balearic anthem in the waiting, this is best enjoyed looking out to new horizons.  

B1 Street Sunbath sees Ponty exploring more-techy territory whilst still retaining the hopeful feeling that forms the backbone of this EP.  

Hidden Object has a strong tribal feel which hooks the listener.  Using vocal chanting samples and simple repetitive melody lines, this is a perfect example of how less is often more in connecting with the dancefloor.

Exclusive V 'La Nouvelle Epoque (Fred und Luna Remix)'

After premiering Fred und Luna's remix for Peter Pardeike's 'Love Supreme' back in September the Karlsruhe based musician is back with another remix, this for the mysterious artist V and his track 'La Nouvelle Epoque' on Le Temps Perdu. But what truly connects the previous Fred und Luna's remix and his current one is the story behind it. 

Before Rainer Buchmüller, how close friends call Fred und Luna, could work his 'Kraut-Skills' on Peter Pardeike's remix as well as on V's he had to overcome the burden of facing a completely crashed computer. But of course Rainer came up with a solution. The Karlsruhe resident jumped onto the next train to Berlin to meet up with his friend Achim Treu alias UFO Hawaii, who bailed Rainer out of this misery and helped him set up the remixes. And e voila here is the second one that was produced during Rainer's short visit in Berlin.

V's EP 'La Nouvelle Epoque' was released on Le Temps Perdu November 24th, 2017.
