Slumber Session: Scratch Massive

Abschaum is a rock band from Lyon, incredibly good, which is trying to keep the mystery on their identity. Sacha met them last year when they played an improvised concert at Heart Of Glass, Heart Of Gold, a festival in the middle of France, and felt under the charm of the energy of the band… Few months later they recorded this LP, and what the fuck !! This was just mindblowing !! Macadam Mambo is presenting here one of its best release, in the influence of bands such as Can, Amon Duul 2 or Alain Bashung… 
Abschaum will be on tour from october till the end of the year, so if you have the chance to see them playing don’t miss it!

Luca Bacchetti - When We Dip 110

“All Human – No Conditions” is the first solo EP by the French producer Itako. The opener “The Country That Does Not Exist” is a slow burning and bass-driven tune in which hypnotic synth and acid lines merge with North African vocal pieces. Thereafter, Itako shows with “Freehands Desire” his darker side. A mid-tempo composition with massive drum patterns and forward-moving melodies. On the flip side, “Groove That Dust” is screwing the tempo back down. Six minutes of an irresistible groove where we assume no one can stand still. The release is rounded off with a remix by MR TC. The Glasgow based musician stretched “The Country That Does Not Exist“ into a tribal workout with breaks in which he lets the machines speak for themselves.

Leeds trio Joe Gill, Heidi Armitage and Tim Hutton aka Tzamsutsi opening new eclectic Various Lurkers 04 compilation on Space Ritual Records.
If you listen hard enough between the kicks and the high hats and the acid lines and the analogue synths you can hear a micro moment of silence, you could hear a psychedelic frogs.
Although Psychedelic Frogs Are Ok is a mid tempo track, it burns the senses every bit as well as much as any track you would hear at 5am. A heavy acid line plays out while punctuated by trippy tribal cowbell which seep in and out of the track.
All the while heady drums dance alongside fx ridden backwards bass lines among acid guitar parts, either way this will be a nice addition to the catalogue of an artist who will allow you to do anything except hear a psychedelic frogs singing.

PREMIERE #832 | Zmatsutsi - Psychedelic Frogs Are Ok [Space Ritual] 2020

They sat across the table, eyes fixed on one another, a sense of disbelief discernible through the deep lines on their faces. Decades had past since they'd last been face to face. So much had happened, so much had changed in that time; it was impossible to know where either of them should begin. The woman opened her mouth softly, then paused. He raised a finger to his lips and smiled warmly. They didn't need words now...

Despite the current circumstances, Berlin-based label Malka Tuti believe reflection, contemplation and adaptation are the best ways to work through this situation. It's this perspective that's motivated them to move forward with their plan to release a digital compilation to celebrate their fifth birthday.  

Featuring five tracks (for five years) the EP includes a couple of contributions from the Malka Tuti family and some secret versions of previous releases that the label bosses have been playing out for some time. Spanning slow trance, ambient and DIY post punk, contributions come from Die Orangen, Vactrol Park, Xen Yovav, Die Orangen, Gordon Pohl and our pick, a sludgy hypnotic remix from Khidja of Tapan and Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, taken off Tapan's Europa LP released in 2017.

Istanbul’a is a song written for the ancient city Istanbul that evokes timeless questions: Can one ever leave behind one’s home? Can one ever truly arrive at a home that was once abandoned yet never quite forgotten? The original version of this haunting track is a dreamy meander through a labyrinth of marimbas and harps, orchestrated delicately by Santi and brought to life by Tuğçe’s ethereal voice. Santi & Tuğçe first released an extended version of this track in 2017 in the aftermath of political events that filled the city with grave uncertainty, much like the current moment in which we find ourselves. Even more so than at the time of its original release, today Istanbul’a captures a widespread sentiment of liminality and uprootedness that echoes all around and gains new meaning in our world as we ask: Can we go back to a past that is long gone? Will things ever be the same again?

Along with Santi & Tuğçe’s revision of their original Istanbul’a, this EP features three brand new renditions. KMLN blends elements of deep tribal house and minimal techno into the original track that is bound to bring the heat to the dancefloor, while Herrhausen & Treindl’s approach yields an equally danceable, yet more laid-back euphoria. The EP ends on a climactic note with Dunkelbunt’s version featuring his signature transglobal electronic-instrumental sound that is full of energy, swing and a sense of eclecticism that is as layered as the ancient city Istanbul itself.

Sand dunes stretched as far as the eye could see, each golden grain made all the bolder beneath the bright blue sky. They journeyed for hours and hours, mesmerised by their beautiful surroundings. On one side mountain ranges stretched high above the skyline, while on the other forgotten palaces and ruins stood in all their glory. There was something magical about this place...

For his first solo effort, producer and musician Bab, who is a member of Paris-based electronica band 404, explores the sounds of Northern Africa. Sahar is a journey into the land of Algeria, created using ethnographic records from the beginning of the 20th century and used in his own contemporary context. Set for release on Rotterdam's Afrobotic Musicology, the four tracks are a homage to the country that Bab loves the most.

For the 3rd instalment of Die Orangen’s Saft series on MT, we have invited dear friends Full Circle once again, this time remix- ing the track Krautback off DUO’s album Zwei Orangen.
Joakim & Alexis took a different turn from their proto-no-goa sound, with more than a nod to the late (and sadly missed) mr. Weatherall, and the result is a DUB.
Another duo we are huge fans of, Smagghe & Cross, took the song Zwei and reshaped it into a minimalistic psychedelic tonal symphony, echoing the original song's voices and fx.
On the B-side, after 3 years of working on it, we have finally brought together again the mighty duo Mungolian Jetset to re- work bits and pieces from the whole LP.
Its a midtempo cosmic disco/house banger that keeps on giving. a pure outdoor festival gem...
Last but not least, we are releasing as B2, for the first time on Vinyl, Die Orangen's collaboration with artist Eva Geist ( self-re- leased digitally earlier this year by the ginger boys themselves) ..... A perfect collaboration, bringing out the more sunny side of the D.O. duo......
