Damian Lazarus signs another classic from the enigmatic DrumTalk, a revered producer who brings in the sublime singing talents of Josa Peit, signed to Brandt Brauer Frick’s label for the invigorating and anthemic ‘Lose Again’. 

Championed by Gilles Peterson, Seth Troxler, Midland & Huxley of late and attracting a large, loyal and diverse following from James Holden and Skream, ‘Wildcard’ shows DrumTalk’s sinister sneer, a techno weapon shooting to kill. ‘Gamma’ makes playful experiments with sounds to great effect, a unique and eloquent record that sways with grace.  

DrumTalk is an East London-based producer and DJ. Inspiration comes via the musical lineage of London, Chicago, New York and Detroit, Lagos and Accra. Elements of house, techno, bass culture and the rhythms of West Africa and the Caribbean are all to be found here. His productions and remixes for More Music, Sofrito, Soundway, Get Me! and Huntleys & Palmers have been making an impact far and wide, garnering the attention and support of DJs such as James Holden, Jackmaster, Gilles Peterson and Skream, amongst a host of others.

Josa Peit is a Berlin-based singer and musician. Her debut EP is released on Brandt Brauer Frick's label The Gym Records.

​All tracks were produced during a one-off session on the shores of Bretagne, more specifically on Le Cap De La Chèvre, using solely a MPC, a Korg 03RW and a TX7, all connected to a portable generator. Bottles of white wine and a consequent amount of oysters were also directly involved in the process.

Arrangements of spherical melodies and edgy elements, combined with oriental influences from his home country, 
he is expressing his thoughts and emotions through analog synthesizers, drum machines, bass guitar and even his own voice.

Click Records Amsterdam, Einmusika / EIN2, Definition: Music and in 2017 he joined Nick Warren’s imprint 
‘The Soundgarden’ with his forthcoming EP ‘Nights of Tel Aviv’, currenlty Ran is performing live acts and DJ sets around the world.

Interview

How and when did you get into electronic music? 
I was about 14 years old when I first entered a night club and instantly felt involve with the music and vibes and decided to learn how to DJ and produce my own music.

Which musical moments have been especially memorable to you? 
My early club days (as a clubber) are always a strong memory and a big inspiration for me,
but I also have special moments that I take with me when I perform at different places.

Which plans do you have for the future?
I have some wicked unreleased stuff waiting to be released this year, also working on my new live show, and have plans to start my own label..  stay tuned ;-)

If you could choose to play at any venue in the world, which place would it be?
I really like outdoor venues and Red Rocks Amphitheatre looks amazing for a live show!

The painting was somewhat distorted by the fragmented nature of his head from last summer. It had been a tough year but little by little he had been able to piece together what needed to be drawn from memory in order to begin his healing. It would always take for him to feel more like himself again but he had never particularly expected to find himself sat upon a beach painting out pictures of his problems from another life far away. This was supposed to be meditative rather than pensive, happy not sad. 

Benjamin Frohlich has invited some of his favourite producers to contribute to a remixes EP which features appearances from the likes of Chinaski and Aera. It is I:Cube however, who steals the show.
