In the outer reaches of space the station floated effortlessly through the night sky, navigating its way across a dark canvas painted with bright stars. A lost generation of humans had come to inhabit this territory in search of something greater than planet earth had to offer. Here they existed harmoniously alongside different worlds and species, they barely remembered the lives they'd previously led down below on solid ground...

Basic Moves continue their mission to showcase the forgotten corners of electronic music from their home country of Belgium. Making his return to the label for the third time, and the twelfth label release, is Sebastian S. under his Caustic 14 moniker, this time with a batch of exclusive tracks produced between 1993 and 1996. His textural sound shines brightly over the six tracks; a healthy mix of crisp breaks, jungle drum workouts and bleepy electro. To quote the label "these compositions emerged during many sleepless nights spent watching videos of science fiction series such as Babylon 5 or Star Trek, scrutinising each episode while composing. Behind these six pieces are six keywords that have a story: BWP, PK, Network, D-jacking Zone Elypsia, Planet-E and Brussels! Another fantastic release from Basic Moves showcasing the rich history of Belgium.

Originally released via Terraform Records in 1995, 'Systems E.P. 1' was certainly too ahead of its time to meet with success back in the day. That said, as years went by, so swelled the reputation of this sextet of visionary, alien-engineered jams, soon turning the once $1 bin find into a highly sought-after item on the second-hand market. Much to the displeasure of hardline speculators but for the greatest joy of skint '90s sound lovers, KOC reissues the Systems experience in full force and effect.

Harbouring a trio of submersible ambient-tech and 303-driven breaky weapons, Red Shift's own dedicated A-side has lost nothing of its soul-fulfilling appeal. Getting the ball rolling, '3rd Moon' skippers us to brightly hued sound niches, where trancey acid motifs merge with slo-moving ambient pads and uptempo breakbeat on a frenzy. Laced with a hint of bleepy abstraction, the more lascivious, piano-laden 'Audity' then shifts the scope to further introspective depths before 'Himalayas' takes us on a mind-expanding ride across imaginary snow-capped summits and lushly forested slopes.

Flip it over and here comes Ether and their mightily explosive 'Detonator' - a wild and woolly acid number that shall not go without conjuring up memories of the early Prodigy's mid-nineties rave exploits. Not to be confused with that of his contemporary Australian counterpart, Escape Artist's 'Rain Eternal' evokes the soulful RnB suavity of Sade's classics, adorned with otherworldly organic warbles and addictive piano stabs. Constants of Nature vibey closer 'Slow Symmetry Breaking' rounds off the journey on a further distinctively atmospheric note, perfect to muster up the energy and drive to take it on the lam from our crazy world.

Her mind had been racing since she first laid her head on the pillow four hours ago. She couldn't seem to switch off. Instead she watched the hands of the clock move endlessly, each second feeling more like an hour. So many thoughts had cluttered her head that night she couldn't begin to disseminate them, so now she tried to think of nothing. Endless, empty thoughts with no beginning or end, with no problems or solutions. But the mind always wanders...

Following releases on Aussie labels like Butter Sessions, Ken Oath and Rhythm Works, last year Melbourne-based producer Furious Frank launched his own imprint, Mind Dance, self-inaugurating it with his Infinity Pool EP. For the second release, he teams up with his former collaborator DJ Fettburger, under his DJ Dogg alias, for three "otherworldly acid squelchers for the late night lurkers".
