Next release is a family affair involving two artists who previously released on Samo Records. Tassilo Vanhöfen, who was featured on our “Sphere” compilation, delivers a hypnotic EP with three of his signature low-tempo/trance-y tracks, perfectly matching the vibe of these strange times. 
“Laterna Magica'' gets reworked by Itako, whose “Standards” EP came out on Samo last year; the result is a sped-up version that will haunt you for days.

One of the bright talent emerging from the current Netherlands‘ electronic underground scene is the German and Amsterdam-based, ‘fetish-inclined’, vocalist and performer Sophie du Palais ((Pinkman, Dekmantel Recordings)) also known as “Vrouwe Fataal”. Sinister industrial wave music exploring themes of lust, hedonism, technological obsession & millennial alienation

Across six tracks, Du Palais unravels a potent signature, driven by fierce, imperious Anglo-Germanic vocals and eclectic, dissonant sounds. Connecting techno, EBM, acid and electro with vestiges of dub and experimental electronics, on ‘Endurance of Pain…’ Du Palais conjures an abrasive, intoxicating depiction of lust, hedonism, technological obsession and millennial alienation.

With the cruising techno pop menace of ‘Slow Steady Cum’, Du Palais introduces a nocturnal underworld. The descent is intensified by the mania and murk of ‘Glazed Disco Ball’ – a suspenseful dose of guttural low end, scowling spoken words, and crude drum machine clatter; if Gudrun Gut fronted Suicide. Then ‘Boys Tears’ elaborates on the dread and the sleaze with a horror show of gurgling synthesis, drubbing percussion and dissolute enunciations, halfway between John Carpenter and Unit Moebius.

From there ‘Up To No Good’ brings proceedings into a severe form of heat and frenzy, outlaying an exchange of raw jackhammer rhythms and vociferous punk chants that recalls Liaisons Dangereuses’ timeless underground classic ‘Los Niños del Parque’ if remade for 2021. ‘Smash The Mirror’ then finds room for scintillating dub recurrence and freakish machine funk before Sophie concludes the set with the sardonic electro-clash anthemics of ‘2001’, a provocative exploration of self, communication, and compulsion in the digital era. Miss Kittin meets Dopplereffekt for a technoid bonfire of the vanities.

‘Endurance of Pain…’ finds Sophie Du Palais seizing an uncompromising sense of style and intensity, an emergent new artist navigating a merciless, pleasure-seeking existence, from club to bedroom to screen, facing it all down with a cold glare, ready to light the fuse.

We want to finish this compilation with the best production quality, with artists like Alessandro Adriani, Timothy J. Fairplay, Chino, Chupacabras, Leroy Se Meurt, Le Chocolat Noir, Univac and Adrian Marth. The a-side sounds like an late-80s industrial EBM cut, focused on playing in the heat of the club. The b-side, on the other hand, goes more towards Electro eighties, with weird sounds and a strong metallic beat- perfect for the adventerous working DJ. 200% club approved!

Krishna Goineau is well known for his starring role in ‘Los Niños del Parque’ with Liaisons Dangereuses and in other projects such as Velodrome and Xeroox. Through one of his friends we have been lucky enough to receive a hard disk on which there are a variety of unreleased tracks by Krishna Goineau with MCL (Micro Cheap League) recorded in the year 85-86. Krishna lived in Barcelona at that time and was involved in different groups while traveling through Germany and Belgium to create new projects. After dissolving Liaisons Dangereuses in 1983 Krishna started a new project with MCL where you can identify the essence and influences that he had at that time, touches of EBM and metal synthesizers with vocals in Spanish as in the track ” No Information ” These tracks are preserved in excellent quality in which Alden Tyrell has done the mastering on vinyl and digital. Having something like this is like finding a treasure in the middle of a secret island. To finalize the release we have edits from Silent Servant, Curses, Esprit Divers aka Coyu. Deckard & Lucient.

Perhaps it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, perhaps underneath it all they were sad and lonely, maybe she was better off with her low paid job and her second hand clothes. Maybe she was happier...

Berlin-based musician Chris Imler delivers the next release on Benedikt Frey, Nadia D’Alò and Markus Woernle's R.I.O. label. Marking the fourth release on the imprint, following instalments from the label bosses Nadia and last year's various artists EP, Country Club brings two original hypnotic cuts to the table and two remixes from INIT, the project of Benedikt Frey & Nadia D’Alò, and Nyege Nyege's Debmaster that take the productions into darker realms.

"Chris Imler, who alternates between eternal street boy and dubious
magician, has succeeded in upgrading to a prophet with his third
record. The 12-inch, completed in January and released on May 15th
on vinyl, is exaggeratedly up to date. Though it would never occured
to him in his wildest nightmares while doing it, Chris Imler produced
the soundtrack for the state of emergency. "I measure time in
catastrophes / The scale is open ended / The house collapses, the
city burns / A laser beam leads me to the Country Club" says the
chorus of "Country Club". The music itself sounds like an emergency
from the first second on. Synths like deeply pitched sirens, a beat like
ground troops."
