Duro is honored to present the birth of the “Baba” brotherhood. During the last pandemic year, Rina traveled from Tel Aviv to Portugal, where he met Switchdance. After some trips around the beautiful city of Lisbon, plates and plates of hummus and samosa, a visit to pick up raspberries at a field that used to be a medicinal cannabis farm and lots of hours in Switchdance's studio, 'Baba Music Vol. 1' was alive.

The journey initiates with the Portuguese version of "Give Way", a cut that narrates the moment when you are in a high state of mind and try to describe the process to get back to reality. For this version the duo worked with vocalist Abrão, where a deep and resonant bass, a synthesized voice, electric and acid melodies, and distant pads run through the space. It’s followed by the Hebrew version of "Give Away" where Rina takes control of the vocals. 

"Reak" means "empty" in Hebrew, the cut refers to a state of consciousness where there is nothing in the brain. Playful percussion, acid basslines mixed with digitally distorted synthesizers create the sensation of breaking out reality, an experience blended with algorithms, binary codes and atomized sounds where it is hard to distinguish the realness. A roar to all the Babas around the world to gather on the dance floor. 

To consummate the brotherhood with an embellishment, master Jonathan Kusama came up with two versions of "Give Way". The first one is a futuristic and dystopian dub masterpiece, with distorted bass lines, shady vocals and liquid percussion. For the second version Kusama brings up the energy and keeps the bass flickering and harsh, mixed with mind-bending and unhinged synthesizers.

It’s also as a way of generating an unplanned dialogue between artists in the label’s orbit, connecting the dots amid them in spontaneous and almost unconscious ways. The third instalment of the series brings together Beesmunt Soundsystem and Cooper Saver. Their two tracks share a similar approach, deconstructing ethereal sounds over dark rhythmic foundations to reach the same kind of narcotic transcendence. This was their territory, and they ruled over it with pride, chasing out any intruders that dared cross their path. They lived off the fear they instilled within their fellow inhabitants, it gave them strength and feeded their arrogance — the unchallenged king of the jungle.

Following the release of In Fields album at the end of last year, Hoga Nord charge into 2021 with another long player, this time from duo Deux Control AKA Rodion and Justine. One for the French/Italian disco fans, the nine tracks across Sex Miami marry smooth 808s and enchanting vocals with EBM influences à la DAF or Nitzer Ebb. Coining their own synth-laden sound - let's call it psychedelic electric body-disco - the pair hark back to the 80s with a soundtrack that was probably too edgy for Miami Vice...

Colombia’s Kaputt Club returns with another sterling various artist release featuring a host of talent that showcases the best in dark disco, electronica, electro and much more. 

2020 saw the Bogota based club launch their eponymous imprint with a far reaching compilation, dropping tracks from a host of artists that perfectly represent the Kaputt sound as they further cement their position as a beacon of the Colombian underground. Now they are back with ten new and exclusive cuts which transcends the club and explores the human impact on the planet, and how nature came back to reclaim their land. 

Born in quarantine when nature sounded much louder than usual, VozTerra a local non-profit organization invited people to listen to nature in 'Sounds from your window'. People in Colombia and around the world took the opportunity of the isolation to listen and record ths sounds of nature. The material, together with soundscapes previously recorded in the Van der Hammen Reserve and in the La Conejera Wetland, in Bogotá, were given to DJs from the electronic music scene to create musical pieces which are now part of the ‘Reserva/Voz Terra’ compilation. 

The alliance of Kaputt.wav, VozTerra and the Museum for the United Nations - UN Live, is the compilation of unconventional actions that musicians and people from all over the world took to express their interest in caring for nature with the hope of inspiring people to take action to care for biodiversity and mitigate climate change. 

Things get underway with ‘Suba-Cota 1996’ from local talent Vilamarea, offering up a succinct opener of warm electronica with rich cinematic pads. Berlin based Curses taken up the baton next with the ethereal and hypnotic ‘Until the Fire Stops’ before Colombia’s Julio Victoria picks up the pace with acid tinged ‘Regreso’. Argentinian and Calypso Records boss Thomass Jackson joins forces with the ever impressive Local Suicide duo for the wonderfully chuggy workout that is ‘The Snitch’ and another Berlin resident in the shape of Bogota’s MiaHush then drops the arpeggiated roller, ‘Siempre Viva’ replete with 80’s inspired synth lines. The compilations second half sees chunky electro from Scadta, syncopated rhythms and rich chords from Nuclear Digital Transistor and some Italo inspired brilliance from Bordeaux’s Dombrance. Completing the package we have the deeply delicious ‘Marcha’ from Kabinett and a final closing opus from Kat Yusti in the shape of ‘Bestia’. ‘

Daniel Monaco has had a slew of impressive releases and what a better way to kick off Roam Recordings 2021 than by teaming up with compatriots Sauvage World to deliver Paninari on Acid. The title track delivers on the acid promise in a rugged yet smooth psychedelic grinder. The second original Tenerè brings the tempo down for a mysterious low-slung expedition. The EP comes with two excellent remixes by Niv Ast and Fabrizio Mammarella. Niv Ast brings an acid house nostalgia with a driving rendition of the title track and Fabrizio Mammarella reworks Tenerè into electro acid territory. All together… a great start to the year.
